Switch On Your Anti Aging Gene
With This Unique Nutrient
Harvard studies have found this amazing nutrient gives you smooth arteries, more energy, strengthens your immune system, and can turn on the genes in your body that promote longevity.
I am referring to Resveratrol, a natural substance that has been shown to have many age reversal properties. This article will explain exactly what resveratrol is and how it can help you turn back your aging clock for a longer and healthier life.
Anti Aging Gene
Scientists have discovered a gene that dramatically increases lifespan in humans, and there is now evidence that resveratrol can actually turn this gene into the “on” position. For anyone interested in life extension this is great news, as now there exists a very simple way to program your genes to give you more life. For those of us with poor genetics now there is hope – you can now take action to change your own future and decide which genes to switch on, and which to turn off.
The “longevity gene” was first discovered some 20 years ago, and it was found to be activated by caloric restriction. A diet very low in calories was first shown to increase the lifespan of mice dramatically, however later studies found that this effect wasn’t just limited to mice.Humans also respond the same way when placed on a low calorie restricted diet, as do plants and other animals. The reason why lifespan is increased is due to certain life protecting genes called sirtuins. These genes are activated under severe stress and trigger some amazing transformations in the body. They transmit messages to every cell in your body to slow the effects of aging in order to give your body more time to repair the DNA damage that will eventually lead to death.
This may sound wonderful, but in order for these genes to be turned on, you need to subject your body to severe caloric restriction – in other words you will literally be starving yourself all the time. This is not exactly a diet that you can continue for very long, so a better way to do this had to be found.
How To Turn On Your Longevity Genes
The problem of how to turn on the anti aging gene without resorting to prolonged starvation had scientists baffled for many years. But now research has shown that your sirtuin anti aging genes can be stimulated into action and activated quite simply. Enter resveratrol, a highly powerful yet completely natural antioxidant that is found in blueberries, grapes, cranberries and other plants.Scientists studied resveratrol extensively and found that it had quite powerful effects on animals and humans alike.
Resveratrol Shifts Your Cells Into High Gear
Resveratrol acts as a potent antioxidant binding with free radicals within your cells to protect them from damage and even death. But more importantly, it acts to “switch on” some of your cells anti aging genes that promote long life and health. Some of the good genes that are activated by resveratrol are genes that:
• Promote normal cellular function
• Repair and protect your DNA
• Maintain a healthy glucose or blood sugar level
• Enable your blood cholesterol and triglycerides to stay at normal levels
In further studies resveratrol has been shown to:
• Improve cardiovascular health
• Boost mitochondrial energy production
• Improve motor function including balance and coordination
It is significant to note that resveratrol is able to boost your physical functions hence It actually improves your overall quality of life in many ways. Harvard scientists have also recently found that resveratrol may be even able to undo the effects of a bad diet.
The Fountain Of Youth?
A team of Harvard researchers were interested to know if resveratrol could actually help us to live longer and healthier lives. They tested their theory on a group of mice – half of which they fed a terrible diet of junk food, including unhealthy trans fats. These mice became overweight and unhealthy with a long list of health problems including heart conditions, diabetes, and sick livers. Not surprisingly all these mice died prematurely. But the interesting part is that the other half of the mice were also fed the exact same diet, but in addition they also were fed resveratrol – the result?
These mice became overweight as well, but they looked healthy and their organs functioned perfectly well just like other normal mice that were given a regular healthy diet.
But even more amazingly, the mice given the resveratrol lived 15% longer than normal.
That is equivalent in human terms to
increasing lifespan by 11 years!
On top of this, the Harvard researchers also put the overweight resveratrol mice through a series of endurance exercise tests against the normal mice to see how they compared. Surprisingly the overweight resveratrol mice had twice the stamina and agility as the thin mice. This is not actually that surprising when you know that resveratrol greatly increases blood flow to muscles and gives them lots more energy to burn.
A study done by the Institute of Genetics & Molecular & Cellular Biology, looked at how far mice could run before they collapsed. The average mouse was able to run 1 km, but mice fed resveratrol were able to run 2 kms – a 100% increase in performance!
How Does Reseveratrol Work?
Your cells are powered by mitochondria, which are literally the power-stations of each and every cell in your body. It is here that oxygen and fats or carbohydrates are used to produce ATP or energy. The more efficient your mitochondria are at producing energy, and the more energy they produce, the healthier you will be. The more energy your produce, the faster your metabolism will be, and the faster your metabolism the less body fat you will have. Also, strong and healthy mitochondria are critical for your heart (heart cells require more energy than any other cell in your body), and also for your brain. As we age however, our mitochondria start to slow down and become inefficient at producing energy, Due to accumulated cellular waste products and external toxins, and also poor diet and inadequate blood oxygenation, these little cellular powerhouses fail to supply your cells with the energy they need for optimum function.
Resveratrol however has been shown to increase mitochondrial production. It does so by activating a special protein called SIRT-1, and it is this protein that creates mitochondria in your cells.
So by boosting mitochondria you will have more energy and much better health, and your organs will be able to perform at a much more optimum level for a much longer period of time. This all adds up to a longer and healthier life, all thanks to resveratrol. You can get some resveratrol by drinking red wine or by eating the foods mentioned above, however you will unlikely receive the age reversal effects of this nutrient unless you take extra doses in supplement form. By doing this you can be assured you are getting the full anti aging effects of this amazing nutrient.
