information on where to have your laptop computer repaired
and upgraded; more interesting Web Sites and my next Question

Beware of a recent spread of the new ‘LOVEGATE.C Worm’!
W32.HLLW.Lovgate.C@mm is the new worm spreading fast in our
area and in Europe. The worm installs a program that
could give attackers access to your PC! The worm spreads
by using a new social engineering tactic, replying to the
target user’s e-mail. The subject line states,
“I’ll try to reply as soon as possible. Take a
look to the attachment and send me your opinion!”
The attachment is, of course, the worm. The worm affects
users of Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express. For

This new shop in Denpasar specializes in laptop computers
- Dell, IBM, Toshiba, and Compaq. They carry most of
the parts for repairs and upgrades in stock. They also
carry used and reconditioned laptops. For instance a
Dell Latitude CPx with PIII, 650 Mhz CPU, 128MB memory, 12
GB hard drive, 14” LCD, CD-ROM, USB2.0, and modem –
8,250,000rp. For repairs – let’s say your
laptop’s hard drive finally fails on you. Don’t
despair, they can replace it with a 20GB drive, AND copy all
your precious files from the older drive – all for about
1,500,000rp and in ONE day. Worse would be if your LCD
display failed. They can replace it with a new one,
which they have in stock, for around 2,500,000rp. They also
carry a very good selection of software.
By the way – have you noticed the availability of computer
CDs in Bali has dwindled of late? On July 1st a new
law takes effect that will cause all that software to be taken
off the shelves. So, if there is ANY software that you
were considering purchasing in Bali, please, do it NOW.

Q: Can the heat and humidity in Bali cause any
problems with my computer? Ketut in Candidasa.
A: The short answer Ketut is YES! So be
careful where you place your computer. Keep it out of
direct sun light and in a place that allows for plenty of
air circulation around the computer case. You can also
take it in and have an extra fan or two installed. Including
the CPU fan in my computer, I have 4 additional ones.
