News on the internet

Today I have an (almost) free program.  Where to get news on the internet for our area and for the world.  A great PC Tune-up link and my next Question and Answer.

Here’s a great program that’s free to try (US$35 if you like it):  Have a lot of music (MP3s, etc) on you computer?  Try Helium2 (http://find.pcworld.com/37184).  It finds all your music files and creates a data base for you.  It’ll even use the internet to look up information about your songs, and then will update the song’s file list.  It even has a bulk-rename feature that will let you easily change “Nora Jones” to “Norah Jones”.  Sort your collection by artist, or by genre to make it easy to create play-lists.

Q: When you use a search engine to find older information or something that is date sensitive, often time the page no longer exists.  Sometimes the link description shows one thing, but the actual page has been updated since the search engine last indexed the site, so the information that you were actually looking for is no longer there...  So what can you do? A: In search engines, such as Google, after the description and the actual web address there is often a link called ‘Cached’. This means that the search engine has a copy of what it saw when it indexed the site, so that you can actually view an older version of the page if it still exists or especially if you get the dreaded “404 File Not Found” error.  Simply click on the word ‘Cached’ to view the older version of the page. This is very handy on sites that frequently update their information, such as events calendars or concert schedules.
You can see Goggle’s explanation at: \l “cached” \t “_blank” http://www.google.com/help/features.html#cached
