How do I get customers to my site?

This is the last of 4 articles about having your own web site (to see the previous 3 articles, please go to: http://baliadvertiser.biz/articles/index.html)

How do I get customers to my site?
Ok, you’ve spent time reserving your domain name (article 1); finding a hosting service (article 2); and designing your site (article 3); now it’s time for the payoff.  Getting new customers to visit your new web site!

Here are a few places to get some information (some have newsletters you can subscribe to):

http://www.wilsonweb.com/
http://www.searchengineguide.com/
http://www.gorillawebsitemarketing.com/

The reason two of the above web sites use the words ‘Search Engine’ in their titles is because that is the key to getting customers to your site. Oh sure, you’ll want to send out information about your new web site to your friends, family, and current customers.  You’ll want to mention it in any print advertisements you do and add it to your business cards.  But the real key to making money from your web site is getting NEW customers to place orders! And the key to new customers finding your web site and placing orders, is the internet Search Engines. You’ve heard their names before: Yahoo; Google; and Ask.com.  There are literally thousands of search engines.  (Here is a chart showing which ones are on top right now: http://searchenginewatch.com/reports/article.php/2156431).

Read the articles on the above sites.  You’ll want to learn about things called META Tags.  You’ll need to know how search engines work.  But you might say “I’m exhausted after a long day keeping my business going, how am I supposed to learn about all this stuff then apply it to my web site?”   I’d answer by saying that if you are interested, you’ll keep reading and start learning about it.  It is pretty fascinating how they work.  If it seems pretty boring, then maybe you should hire someone to do it for you.  There is even software that can help: http://www.web-positiongold.com/  But the bottom line is that without Internet Marketing of your web site, all your previous work and money will be somewhat wasted.  Just like your business, without advertising to bring customers to your store or to call you, you wouldn’t have much business.  It’s the same with web sites.  Your customers MUST be able to find you.

Here are some companies that specialize in doing web marketing for you.  I have not used either of these, so be careful, check prices and be leery of guarantees!:
http://www.seoconsultants.com/ <<has a search list by country! http://101registerme.com/

I have worked with both of these companies and they produce results!
http://digitaldevelopment.com/html/sitepromotion.html they are located in Jakarta;  and
http://www.visiontechasia.com <they do beautiful, full function commercial websites and are located locally, right here in Bali!

Lastly, you’ll want to keep in mind that the way you find out about a web site is usually:
1.   You saw it mentioned in an article (AND you remembered the name)
2.   A friend told you about it (AND you remembered the name)
3.   You saw it mentioned on another web site (AND you remembered to click on the link)
4.   You found it on a search engine like Google or Yahoo!

That’s about it.  As you can imagine, MOST people use #4.  So it is important to do that Search Engine marketing for your site just like it’s important to do advertising for your store!

I hope these 4 articles have been a help to get you started.  It is not as hard as it seems at first.  You don’t do everything in one day.   So, re-read each article and do just that part, then go on to the next part!  Best of luck!
