Today I have computer trick that will save you time; some
information about upgrading your software; a great site for
finding low prices; and my next Question and Answer.
Today I’ve got a neat trick for you – This one
drives me nuts. I’m typing along and my finger
accidentally hits the Caps Lock Key and I continue typing
for several lines before I look at the screen and notice it’s
ALL IN CAPS. MS Word has a keyboard shortcut that allows
you to Change Case on the fly with five different options.
Whether you’re having fun or working on a project using
MS Word this tip is always handy. You can change from
uppercase to lowercase or to title case with just the tap
of a finger. Find this tricky tip out by going to: http://datadr.com/redir.cfm/5-24-03Trick/
Software reviews - what upgrades are worth the effort?
There are two types of software upgrades you need to be aware
of:
1. Upgrades to your existing software
version (to find out the version you are using, open the software,
then click on Help/About. You’ll see information
there about what version you are using). These upgrades
are usually needed as they fix a problem with the software
or make it run better. If you find that an upgrade to
your version is available, you should download and install
it.
2. Upgrading from one version to another
complete version. For instance, upgrading from Version
2 to Version 3 or Word2000 to Word2002. Most of the
time these are NOT necessary. Perhaps you automatically
get the latest version with your new computer – that’s
ok. Otherwise, be careful! The first thing to
do is go to the site of the software producer and look at
all the enhancements to the newer version. Are there
any that you think you can use? Most of the time we
use the newer version EXACTLY like we did the older version
and NEVER use the new features. Also, sometimes the
software works differently. That great little drop-down
option may now be found somewhere else in the software (you
can always use the Help feature to find out where it is).
Also be careful, sometimes it costs to upgrade and sometimes
not – just be a little careful here.
So, in general, it’s not necessary to upgrade to NEWER
versions but IS necessary to upgrade your existing version.
Just for fun: Remember as kids we built and flew paper airplanes
when the teacher was out of the classroom? Thanks to
the computer, you don’t even need paper. Design
