What Software Pak Bruce can’t do without! - Part 2
With this BaliPC Advisor article I thought I’d give
you the rest of my MUST have programs. It’s what
software I use everyday; and more. So here is the last
(see last issue for the others) of the list of software that
I use and love and could not do without, and where to get
it, how much, etc. I don’t list their web sites.

SendToAny – Have you ever noticed one of the items when
you click on ‘File’ of any program, called ‘Send
to…’?
Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) – If you often download
programs this is a MUST have. It has a wonderful feature
called ‘Resume’. This means if you loose
your connection or for some reason the download fails before
it completes, just restart the download later and DAP will
CONTINUE the download for you!
Pest Patrol – Keeps all those pests out of your computer!
AdAware SE Personal – Finds and deletes those small
files you don’t know about that are on your system to
spy on you! Some even send information back to their
company that tell them what web sites you’ve been to!
Belarc Advisor – This great little program will give
you a file that you can look at later with all the information
about your computer. I mean ALL. What OS you have;
what programs and their versions; what video card; and much
more. Very handy.
BitTorrent – If you download files like music, movies,
programs, even eBooks. This is another MUST have.
I’ll let you read from their site how it works, but
it let’s people share their files with you. (Some
legally, others illegally) (I use uTorrent as the software!)
Firefox & FireTune – I hardly use MS Internet Explorer
any more. I LOVE Firefox. It has too many features
to mention here, but I’ll mention just two: 1) ‘tabbed
browsing’ this lets you use ONE program (Firefox), but
go to many, many sites at once. When I start Firefox
it goes to my favorite 11 web sites and gets the pages for
me. After my morning shower, they’re all there!
I can save different favorites for different purposes.
My wife has hers, I have mine when I do research for this
column, I have another for news, and more! Firetune
fine-tunes your system for FireFox and makes it work better.
FolderSize – This handy little program let’s you
see what folders contain HUGE amounts of data. Great
for helping you trim your storage space.
GodFather – If you use MP3s this is for you. It
let’s you easily manage the names that appear when you
play your file, the Artist, Title, Album, and more.
Automatically.
GoogleToolbar – I love this and they are always adding
new features. I use the ‘pop-up blocker’
and the AutoFill
the most.
