10-Megapixel Cameras

In the olden’ days, like up until now, ‘real’ photographers said that digital cameras could NOT compete with film ones. But NOW they can. 10-Megapixel Cameras, which have come down in price, can compete and WIN against ‘film’ cameras. First let’s define 10-megapixels, this means 10 million dots of picture information. The more information the larger the image you can print. So with ten megapixels you can print 8 by 10 or larger pictures and they’ll look GREAT!

Ok, 10-megapixel cameras are nothing new. It’s just that before this current batch of digital cameras, you’d have to spend thousands of dollars on a professional-level dSLR to get one. That’s no longer the case however, and just about every manufacturer has now introduced affordable and accessible 10-megapixel cameras that will soon be in the hands of everyone you know.

Well, that may be overstating things a bit. While the attraction of such a big number is unmistakable, that other big number (the price tag) may turn some consumers off. As you can see on my helpful list at the bottom, most of these cameras are priced between $400 and $500. That’s a hefty chunk of change. Only the HYPERLINK “http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/digital-cameras/canon-powershot-a640_reviews.html” Canon PowerShot A640 seems relatively reasonable, selling for about $300. At that price point, Canon has high hopes for the A640, and thinks that it will be just as popular as its legendary predecessors, the A95 and A620.

There ARE even more expensive digital cameras. The Nikon and Cannon models sell for over US$2000. But, the models listed below will serve all but the most professional photographer well.

Initial reviews for these cameras are mostly positive, and you can bet that manufacturers have taken great pains to be sure that their new flagship models are ready for public consumption. Keep an eye on all the product pages found on the web and explore the reviews of users like you (epinions.com) who have gone ahead and made the purchase. That’s the best way to see how such cameras truly perform in the real world short of buying it yourself.

So, if you’ve been waiting to trade in the wonderful film camera you’ve been using for years for a new digital one, now is the time. Also time to trade in that darkroom equipment (and chemical smell) for some great software like Photoshop CS2. By the way, the web is full of sites that will walk you thru using Photoshop to really jazz up your photos (do a Google search ‘photoshop tutorial’). With this combination you can create some incredible images. Maybe even publish some on your own web site and let the world know and see your talents! So get going. Make the jump from film to digital. You’ll never look back!
