As regular readers of my column would note, I am pretty much a stickler for beauty /hair salon hygiene, so it’s very nice to report on an Indonesian owned business that follows Western procedures particularly in the area of OH&S. Not only this new Beauty Salon & Day Spa with a difference, but the Jakarta born owner entrepreneur, also operates a successful Wedding & Event company too.
BALIVIP SALON & DAY SPA – a unique experience – prestige & mystical!
So, let’s start at the beginning – here is a busy Wedding Event company (BaliVIP) that is always in need of regular services for hair & makeup artists to attend to the needs of not only the bridal party but that of their guests, so when the opportunity came up for Veronika to take over an existing hair & beauty salon, it provided her with an excellent opportunity & an exciting challenge.
Here she could attend to the wishes of her bridal party & guests for all their pre-nuptial treatments, but also to have therapists on hand to attend to the bridal party at their chosen venue on the day.
Not only weddings, but events & parties too, this is beautifying on a large scale & it certainly helps when you have your own Beauty Salon & Day Spa!
Now, the difference to this & other salons I see is the star hairstylist, a most interesting guy by the name of Ananda. A professional Indonesian hair stylist (schooled & trained in Melbourne, Australia, with several hairdressing awards under his belt) who is completely au fait with doing those creamy blonde ‘Brighton’ highlights that Melbournians love, or the creamy blonds from Mosman & Double Bay in Sydney!
But, Ananda has other qualities, several years ago in Australia he became most interested in the area of Tibetan bodywork (Tsa Rlung) which is basically working with the channeling of energies of the body by various methods, one being Japanese acupuncture (as opposed to the Chinese variety) to insert a very fine needle in order to release the energy & direct it, whereby the Chinese style is to insert a needle into the muscle to remove the pain. Ananda works closely with the client providing intuitive diagnosis & to ensure that all channels are working harmoniously, (the ying (spiritual) & the yang (physical).
Therefore Ananda’s take on his world of hairdressing (apart from the physical) is the herbal, spiritual & peaceful elements – try the popular Crème Bath treatment & you will see what I mean. Ananda believes the key to life is not only to heal the body, but to maintain a healthy lifestyle – which is what we all know, but do we do it?! Here is a simple way to experience & learn more about you with the assistance of this ‘young master’ of Tibetan bodywork.
The salon menu includes all the usual hair treatments, like shampoo, cut & color, using L’oreal hair products. Body treatments include the traditional to hot stone massage using products from Spa Essentia & Spa Synergy. And like a few select salons detox & a cellulite treatments are available too,
Revlon manicures & pedicures are always popular or just pop by for a quick re-polish. Facials are par for the course, using Body Shop and Indonesian Martha Tilaar ‘Biokos’ products for all skin treatments like cleansing, scrub, mask & massage. And finally make-up, it’s always nice for a change of ‘face’ along with the new individual false eyelashes that are all the rage.
Another side of the business is the Mobile Spa aptly named (Spa at you doorstep) that can be booked on a regular basis. Spa Parties, Batchelor & Angel (Hen’s) parties & Spa time after a busy Team Building Session & Corporate Conference.
Ananda is completely worldly (particularly when it comes to Japanese hairstyles & fashion) have you heard about the popular Harajuku look in hairstyles? & now the newer look is called Kawaii, which is a soft, subtle & romantic look. There you have it, when you call BaliVIP Salon be sure to book in with Ananda, it will surely be a fascinating hour or two!
And now another treatment that I had never ever heard of but it’s real! Here is a salon that performs an old Javanese tradition called – wait for it – Vaginal Smoking?! This treatment can be left to your imagination, but it obviously involves a whole heap of herbs that are put onto a burner (or infused in boiling water) An half an hour it takes for this ritual, which is still very much part of a pre-wedding treatment, maybe some of you gals over in Seminyak might like to try it out?!
By the way, most of the Spa therapists have enjoyed overseas experience having worked with international hotels in Turkey, China & Malayasia. One therapist in particular is well experienced in post natal & pre wedding treatment.
For the Wedding side of the business, BaliVIP will organize ‘the lot’ for you – from party concepts, food & beverage, sound & lighting, flowers to stationary, the priest & if you wish Balinese entertainment – along with a complete budget & running sheet. What more can a bridal couple require!
