We must have all walked /driven past this pale green building surrounded by lovely vegetation, located on the corner of Jl Kayu & Jl Oberoi, Petitenget. Thirteen years strong and this business keeps on going!
Decided I needed to pop by & find out what their secret was – well, the place was heaving, who said there are no tourists around town? Guess this is where many of them were, all enjoying the luxury of total pampering. Generally a calm & relaxed atmosphere accounts for a lot in a salon & this is so here at Bodyworks, just the quiet & efficient movement of busy staff from one client to another.
At one end of the main building is a large area set aside for hairdressing, where a number of clients were also enjoying the delights of a rich cream bath for head & shoulder massage, most of these clients were indulging in both manicure /pedicure (not only the regular &French, but a Sports manicure – no polish, to the popular Flower manicure, using OPI & Revlon).
At the other end of this large area is a Fresh Juice Bar where one can just sit, read, relax & sip. And in the center, is the busy reception area along with a well stocked bar for popular products - Paul Mitchell & L’oreal for hair, the new Biokos facial range by Martha Tilaar & an assortment of hair accessories, sandals, candles & soaps.
Ah, but the best bit are a number of lovely cool rooms that are located around a delightful courtyard (shades of Morocco, India & Turkey) these rooms are for body massage, facials or waxing treatments. Each room is painted out in a soft cool shade of aqua blue /green, white, even red terrazzo. Complete with massage table, baths, bowls full of flowers & product, these rooms look ever so inviting!
From the Traditional Massage or with hot stones, there is a good Spa menu for whatever ails you using a mix of appropriate Essential Oils for - Headaches & Migraine, Jet Lag, Cough & Bronchitis to Cold & Flu?! Thai & Shiatzu Massage which work on your pressure points are other alternate massage treatments. And don’t forget, Bodyworks will look after the men too! T: (0361) 733 317 or 735 058.
Make-up? Oh, where does one start on such a subject but as we are well aware the cosmetic industry is a world wide billion dollar one, not only make-up but skincare & related products. There are many connotations for the term, make-up, but with clever use of product, a make-up artist can - camouflage, conceal, cover, disguise, hide & veil a face. But of course we don’t want any of the above (only for movie stars/models) all we want is to look at our own face and know what areas to highlight or accent. Of course many ladies apply make-up well, many don’t use make-up at all & many don’t do a very good job at applying it! So, thought it timely to ask leading Make-up artist, Yeanne to share some of her ideas & tips on the subject.
Yeanne recommends that a basic make-up kit should contain – moisturizer, foundation, concealer, eye shadows, eyeliner & mascara. Lipsticks, transparent powder, blush & eyelashes. The trends for the season are – natural eye shadows with a stroke of eyeliner for lids. False lashes are great for weddings & evening make-up only. Candy color shadows are back in vogue – lime, blue &grey, with plenty of pink for the lips & touch of gloss.
Sun Screens & spray on mist to freshen your skin are ‘given’s’ every day, with a touch of bronzing powder to provide that sun-kissed look. A sweep of natural color on the eyes, some waterproof mascara & a touch of gloss to the lips. Night time make-up - play with color more and frosted eyeshadows, eyeliner & lashes of course and don’t forget a touch of blush!
I asked Yeanne about where does her inspiration come from - travel, culture & nature, along with tribal make-up, celebrities, geishas & porcelain dolls!
Favorite Make-up Products are-The MAKE-UP STORE (the closest are found in Jakarta & Singapore) but MAC, STILA, NARS & BOBBI BROWN are excellent too. But if it’s only Centro that we have, then take a look at Anna Sui, Revlon, Estee Lauder & Maybelline.
It’s probably time for all of us to consult Yeanne re our own personal make-up, not only for our everyday ‘face’ but make-up for a special party, event, a model shoot or a wedding.
Re weddings, remember the important rules, a long lasting foundation, waterproof mascara and a stay on lippy! For grooms, perhaps a concealer to cover irregularities, a touch of powder & a lip balm.
