Coming up to the summer season, when we all want to look our most ravishing, thought it timely to mention some lesser known beauty salons that seem to keep going on for years & years and are well patronized by people living here.
When speaking about beauty salons, just about ‘everyone’ has something to say on the subject. It’s such a personal choice & no matter how one may ‘swear blind’ that their salon & menu of treatments performed are the best in Bali, others will have a completely different idea.
People are very different in what they like, the ‘feel’ of the salon environment is an all important factor, it just could be that the owner & staff recognize you & call you by name, that they are friendly & courteous, but not over familiar, speak English in order that they understand what you want & know what they have to do, There’s the overall cleanliness issue, if the salon smells of cigarettes or cooked food (very off putting) how the various treatments are performed (too light, too heavy in touch) and of course that the therapist is experienced.
Many folk are way more particular than others – this is natural, we can’t all be the same. Some people love getting a beauty treatment done for as little money as they can which is their motivating factor, while others prefer a more ‘western’ style environment & staff service & will obviously have to outlay more for their treatment. Will leave it to you……

CHINESE STYLE – ‘CUPPING’ an old Chinese remedy
Goodness me, what treatment has this lady had on her back?!
It’s actually an old Chinese treatment that is called ‘cupping’ sometimes called ‘kop’ which is a traditional healing treatment, using vacuum glass cups.
This technique produces blood congestion at the site (when & after the glass cups have been applied) which will stimulate the body’s own healing powers internally, it’s a technique that will start some toxic elimination of the body and should be done in a series of treatments, but sometimes once is enough - this photo of the models back was done over in Jogjakarta.
Cupping is used for lower backache, sprains, soft tissue injuries, and helping relieve the fluid from the lungs for chronic bronchitis. Cupping can also form part of an acupuncture session too.
However, not everyone can benefit from cupping, so if you are interested then you should seek advice from a qualified practitioner.
