January 27, 2010

With a new year & decade ahead, there are always new resolutions, regimens, products to discover & fresh ideas, with this in mind, decided to cover this column from a different angle & ask some outgoing gals that reside in Bali, what they use, in terms of product for - body, face, hair & other information that they would like to share (don’t worry guys, it will be your turn another time!)

Barbara - Inti Boutique, Jl Raya Seminyak & Jl Tamblingan, Sanur (retail & wholesale)
Uses a real mix of product, much of which is purchased overseas, but Carrefour offers some variety.
Skin – A mix of Boots products, particularly the tonic which is refreshing & great for skin cleansing.

It’s the perfect product for tropical living, great for keeping bacteria at bay & an excellent exfoliant. Also uses Neutrogena for moisturizer & sunblock.
Body - Ubud Fitness, Meditation & Chi Gong.
Hair - AMO Hair on Jl Petitenget, Seminyak but will visit Brenda in Ubud who seems to save/fix everyone’s hair if need be!

Face – Origins, Jurlique & Elemis product from Mandara Spa.
Treatments – Miracle Clinic, Kuta for facials.
Nails – manicures at AMO Salon & Glo Day Spa & for a split nail, will run to Soap Suds for an acrylic! By Pass (just past Galleria) loves OPI red nail varnish.

Mary Justice Thomasson-Croll (travel writer & PR consultant) (writes the LUXE Guide & the Frommer’s Guide Book to Bali & Lombok, out in March 2010). Hey, this gal is a real high-end product queen, take a read, most is imported from the States, sadly, for us!
Hair – Aquage products great for sun damaged hair (www.aquage.com) Strengthening Shampoo, Volumising Conditioner & Beyond Shine.
Nails – try the super deluxe pedicure at Glo, Seminyak.
Skin – can’t live without her Cosmedix (www.cosmedix.com) Purity Clean, Lighting Serum, Defy & Hydrate products and then, some local facials at the Glo Day Spa & Martha Tilaar in Seminyak.
MakeUp – Love MAC & Benefit, plus all the face brushes.
Body/Massage – Elisa for Aqua gym, Anoushka, Personal Trainer from UK, Ayurvedic massage at the Four Seasons, Sayan & Jari Menari Dancing Fingers, Jl Raya Seminyak.

Going through the above information, it appears that there are simply not enough quality products available in Bali that are suitable for the Western skin / hair type in particular. I would suggest here lies an opportunity??
