Expatriate Girls Killed
Two young expatriate girls, Hayley Cameron and Olivia Ivanyi, were killed in a motorcycle accident Thursday September 11 shortly after midnight. The accident took place on Jalan Double Six while the girls were riding double, without helmets. Both died at the scene.
 
Thousands of Sponsored Children in Bali
The main problem of the National Movement of Sponsoring  Parents (GN OTA) is the growing number of sponsored children while the ability to aid them is getting limited. Chairperson of GN OTA Sri Supadmi Arsana made the comment on Tuesday (16/9). She said the number of applicant children at the end of 2002 was 46,000 and they could only help 25,835 children from 2000 to 2003. Mrs. Arsana appealed to the people to participate in the program. “The main issue is to raise the funds and find more sponsoring parents,” she said. (BP 17 Sep)
 
Narcotic Addict Gets Light Sentence
The trial of suspect Steven Douglas Kiskenen, 26, from Australia, who was arrested in Jalan Kapten Japa, Yangbatu on July 21, was closed to media coverage. Even the prosecutor Urop Tri Gunawan and lawyer Wirya Kusuma Yuda had no comments. Suspect Kiskenen who was also the target of a Police operation was given a 5 month sentence without any fine. “He was proven an addict so no fine is charged, “ the jury said. Eyewitnesses said Kiskenen was found carrying 0.3 gram heroin on July 21. (Denpos 17 Sep)
 
Damaged Temples
Some temples along Gianyar Beach have been damaged, one of them, Piyasan of Sanghyang Aya collapsed six months ago. “The land under the temple was eroded because of abrasion,” a resident of Ketewel said. Other temples that are threatened include Hyang Sangkur temple, Taman Sari temple, Segara Manyar temple, Catur Segara temple and Sanghyang Aya temple. Meanwhile Head of Gianyar Religious Affairs Office, Gusti Agung Bagus Raka Putra, said he would send his staff to collect data. Coordination with some related offices would be made to prevent destruction. However, the renovation cannot be completely and quickly made as the local monetary situation is declining. (BP 16 Sep)
 
Killed by a Tree Branch
Ni Nyoman Suraningsih, 28, from Luwus, Baturiti, Tabanan was killed when a branch of  banyan tree fell on her while she washing in Palian River, Luwus on Saturday (13/9). An eyewitness, Ni Wayan Rudiati, said there was no big wind before the incident. The victim and eyewitness were chatting when the branch of a banyan tree by the river suddenly fell on her head. The five-meter branch of 20 cm diameter killed her on the scene. The police did not find anything suspicious. (BP 15 Sep)
 
 
 
Bali Government Donation for Ground Zone
Bali provincial government donated Rp 1.599 billion to repair the Kuta bombing ground on Wednesday (10/9). Badung Vice Regent Drs. Sumer said the construction of the site is predicted to be finished before the commemoration of the bombing. The physical construction of Ground Zone was started on Monday           (8/9). The first construction will cost Rp 400 million where an altar and installation of flags of the victims and their names will be built. (BP 11 Sep)
