Arrested for Using False Identity
A Singaporean, Chua Eng Loo, was arrested at the Immigration Office in Denpasar, on Thursday (25/9) for using a false identity when he applied for a visa. The Immigration office was suspicious because Loo's answers during the interview were different from the information he had given upon getting his last visa. He also looked confused. Finally he admitted that he came to Indonesia last year through Surabaya using a short visit visa. There he worked in Indotex Utama. "He tried to deceive the officer by using a false identity as if he was an Indonesian," said Nyoman Putra, Head of Denpasar Immigration Office. (Denpos Sep. 30)
Police Seize Green Turtle
The Buleleng Police removed a green turtle from the home of a resident of Sangsit Village, Buleleng. The Police also arrested Ketut Sulaba and Nara. Sulaba said that he bought the turtle from Nara for Rp. 250.000 for use in a ceremony. Undercover police who pretended to buy the turtle found out that Sulaba wanted to sell the turtle for Rp. 600.000. The 80-cm green turtle, a protected species, has been placed in a small pond at Buleleng Police Headquarters. (BP Oct. 4)
15-Year Sentence for Local Boy
Masykur Abdul Kadir, a Bali bombing suspect, who is known as “local boy”, was sentenced to 15 years, in court on Monday (29/9). "From September 10 to October 13, 2002, the suspect had been involved in Imam Samudra’s activity," said Nyoman Karma, member of the judge’s team. Kadir looked for a rented house for Imam, Amrozi and friends when they arrived in Denpasar on September 10, 2002; he rented the car for them and accompanied Ali Imron to buy the vehicle. Kadir said he only made a living. He also denied cooperating with Imam Samudra and other suspects. (BP Sep. 30)
Thefts in Kuta and Sanur
Lorraine Cicia, 39, from Rome, Italy, lost a bag containing money and important belongings worth Rp 50 million when she was asleep in one of the hotels in Jalan Laksamana, Kuta on Monday (22/9). In her report to the Police, she said that she slept without locking her door thinking that Bali was safe. A thief entered and took everything from her bag. Meanwhile, on Monday, a thief snatched the bag of Australian Roland Vrenssend when he was taking a walk in Jalan Danau Toba, Sanur. Two men on a Honda Tiger motorcycle took his bag, which contained Rp 13.5 million cash. (Denpost 25 Sep).
A Victim of Murder Discharged Alive
The mystery of the death of a woman whose corpse was found in a well in Pulaki, Singaraja, on Saturday (20/9) has been revealed. Erwinari was thrown into the well, alive, after being tortured. The Chief Detective of Grokgak Police made the annoucement on Wednesday (24/9). Erwinari, who was working in the logistic department of PT Sempu Nusa Persada, lived in Jember in East Java. Her decomposed corpse was found in the well. The Police are looking for the victim's working partner who disappeared before the corpse was found. (BP 25 Sep.)
