In the Bali bombing trial on Monday (28/7), general prosecutor I Nyoman Dila demanded the death sentence for suspect Imam Samudra. In the 301 page charge, the prosecutor said that Samudra was proven to have planned the Bali bombing, the bombing in Batam on Christmas Eve, a gold shop robbery and keeping the weapons. “Call Me Prof. Ali”
Ali Imron bin H Nurhasyim alias Ali the suspect in making the bomb in the Kuta bombing last October has asked to be referred to as professor. “Call me professor Ali,” said Ali as quoted by his lawyer Drs. Suyanto following the trial on Monday (21/7). The suspect is sentenced with life imprisonment or the death sentence. (Nusa July 22)
Baby Murderer is Mentally Ill
Police have found new evidence in the murder of a baby. The suspect Nengah Manis, 20, who killed her own baby is allegedly mentally ill. “After being examined at the Wangaya Hospital, the suspect was found to be mentally ill,” said Chief of Denpasar City Police Helmy Santika on Monday (21/7). People Need Water Not Sport Building
Chairman of House Commission B of Karangasem Legislative Office I Gede Intaran said that people in Karangasem who live in mountain areas like Kubu, Abang and Seraya subdistrict need clean water not a sport building. The clean water project should be prioritized. Intaran made the comment on Saturday (19/7). Villagers in Kubu can easily get clean water provided that there is a piping project. In Ban Village Mountains, there are many water resources that can be piped. “If there is water piping project, the water can be distributed to the entire Kubu mountains,” he added. (BP July 21)
Visa on Arrival Fee Still Rejected
Viewing that there is limited recovery in tourism particularly in Bali, bureaucrats, academics, private companies, non-governmental organizations and the people tried to share their common vision in recovering Bali tourism. They held a four-day Bali Recovery seminar in Hotel Santika, Kuta. A working group was established to formulate the opinions of Bali tourism industry. A declaration was also issued in the seminar, which firmly rejected the Presidential Decree No. 18 year 2003 concerning the visa fee to be paid for all tourist arrivals. (Nusa July 19)
“ Swiss Cows in Bali”
Replicas of painted polyester cows will be displayed and auctioned on August 9 at Garuda Wisnu Kencana, Jimbaran. The cows have been artistically painted by Balinese painters. The exhibition is free of charge and is open for public. “The money from the auction will be donated to the Rotary Club.
