Kerobokan Correctional Institution will Isolate Amrozi
The Kerobokan Correctional Institution will give special treatment to Amrozi bin H. Nurhasyim, convicted for the Bali bombing. To avoid any threats from other prisoners and any effort to escape, Amrozi will be closely watched and isolated from the other prisoners. (Nusa Aug. 10)
Gilimanuk Harbor be Equipped with
Detector for Explosives
Bali Chief Police Ins. Gen. Po. Made Mangku Pastika said that Gilimanuk Harbour will be closely watched and equipped with detectors for explosives. In addition trained dogs have also been placed at the harbor. Meanwhile, Chief of Jembrana Police AKBP Drs Johnny Latupeiris said that so far the available equipment are metal detectors and mirrors, while explosives detectors have not yet been supplied. Car Explodes
On Friday (8/8) a car exploded in a rented garage. The fire gutted the garage and some surrounding buildings. The cries of women and the chaotic situation on the scene made traffic in Pekambingan area totally congested. Other than the burning of a Fiat car, the fire also gutted the warehouse of Asmat crafts, a printing warehouse and a house. (BP Aug. 9)
Comments on Amrozi’s Sentence
“
I’m relieved!” exclaimed Natalie Greth commenting on the death sentence to Amrozi in the trial for the Bali Bombing. Natalie lost her husband John Ary Juniadi in the Bali bombing on October 12 last year. The Australian woman said the death sentence is deserved for Amrozi for his terror act. Meanwhile Collin Marshall, a New Zealand citizen, who lost his child in the bombing said the death sentence is appropriate for Amrozi though death sentence is not available in his country. Another Australian, Colleen Allen, also shared the same opinion saying Amrozi deserves the death sentence. (Nusa Aug. 8)
No Winds, Participants and Viewers are Disappointed
Participants and viewers attending the last day of 25th Bali Kite Festival on Sunday (3/8) were disappointed as the wind blew very slightly making some kites unable to fly. “It is a natural factor, we can’t do anything though I’m disappointed with the conditions as we have waited for this moment since one month ago,” said Gede Suteja, a participant. 99 Turtles Saved
The Water Police of Bali AKBP arrested the crew of a boat that was carrying turtles on Wednesday (29/7). Officers of Kubu Water Police, Karangasem stopped the boat KM Putra Mandiri that was carrying 99 green turtles. According to the Police, the boat was stopped 12 miles from Kubu Beach, Karangasem. The boat had left Sepeken Village, Madura for Bali. They brought turtles belonging to Madurese businessman Hamid Habibie. The 99 turtles were released on Kuta Beach. (BP Aug. 1)
Mentigi Harbor Constructed to Attract Investors
Many potential investors in Nusapenida are reluctant to invest because of the minimal infrastructure, transportation and communication. Klungkung Regent Ir. Tjokorda Gde Ngurah made the comment on Thursday (31/7) in a meeting in Semarapura. “Because of the hurdles, many investors put aside investing in Nusapenida,” he added.
