A sarcophagus was found by laborer Ernadi Sukir, 25, in an irrigation canal in Banjar Lebih, Gianyar. The sarcophagus is estimated to be 5,000 years old. The 165 x 65 cm sarcophagus is now being kept in the Office of Prehistoric Property Bali-West Nusatenggara-East Nusatenggara. It is in the form of a megalithic turtle. (Nusa Aug. 26)
Bomb Threats to Hotels in Lovina
Three hotels in Lovina have been threatened with bombs. However, the hotel owners do not take the threats seriously. One of the owners of the hotels threatened, Hotel Bayu Kartika, Agung Ngurah Mudipta, said at the opening of Festival Lovina in Pantai Bina Ria on Sunday (24/8) that two other threatened hotels include Hotel Banyualit and Hotel Sol Lovina. The threat is forwarded by a letter. In the letter, the sender asked for Rp. 37 million and gave the account number of Britama BRI Singaraja on behalf of Budiawan and the deadline for the payment is on August 22. (BP Aug. 25)
Traditional Boats Carrying Tourists Sail to Buleleng
At least ten boats from many countries are ready to participate in Buleleng Regency for the Indonesian Marine Tournament (IMT) 2003 that is promoted by Association of Marine Tour Entrepreneurs (Gahawisri). Traditional Phinisi boats are sailing to Buleleng waters from Makasar, South Sulawesi. The boats are led by three ships KLM Ratu Rima, KLM Bugis and KLM Ikan Terbang. Head of Gahawisri Ir Yos WK Amerta made the announcement on Thursday (21/8) in Singaraja. He said the boats will arrive in Buleleng on Saturday (23/8). Amrozi’s Fate Behind Bars
The death sentence to Amrozi bin Nurhasyim is not a heavy burden for him. He still grins in the Kerobokan Prison. He looked calm when Bali Governor Dewa Made Beratha visited him on Sunday (17/8). “I’m fine, Sir,” said Amrozi behind the bars. In the Independence Ceremony at the prison, Amrozi and other 24 convicts of the Bali bombing did not participate because of security considerations. According to Tulus Widjajanto, Head of Prison, Amrozi is not allowed to be out of his cell. His food and drink are delivered to his cell with maximum security. (Denpost Aug. 18)
Rare Turtle Lays Eggs at Klungkung Beach
At 11 pm on Saturday (16/8) a rare turtle, Dermochelys coriacea, laid eggs in Sidayu Beach, Klungkung. The location is about 500 meter from a previous egg laying location in Lepang Beach. Local people witnessed the phenomenon where the turtle produced 122 eggs. According to Head of Sanitation and Environment Office Klungkung Ir. I Wayan Muliartha, only 101 eggs will hatch while the rest are not perfect. All eggs were then moved to Lepang Beach. The female turtle that laid the eggs was 2.1 meter long and 1.42 meter wide.
