Bank Closed - Money Returned
Following the government closure of Bank Dagang Bali, the smaller customers of BDB can withdraw their savings with no problems starting April 26. Bigger customers need to wait as they need to be verified thoroughly. Bank BNI will also handle withdrawals for BDB. Following the closing of BDB, many customers are still flocking to BDB buildings to find out when their money can be withdrawn. (BP April 16)
Two Tourists Robbed
An Australian tourist, Craig Roddom, lost a bag placed in the storage area of the Langsung Indah bus plying Ketapang-Denpasar on Monday (12/4). It contained 30 blankets, hand phone, camera, clothes and glasses. When the bus arrived in Ubung Terminal the bag was gone. The loss was Rp. 13 million and reported to Denpasar City Police. Meanwhile, the house of Judith Yoeng Sukim, a Singaporean tourist, in Kuta, was broken in at 7.30 am on Wednesday (14/4). She forgot to lock the door so the thief could easily take her hand phone, US$ 60, S$ 300, Rp. 450,000 cash and some jewelry totaling Rp. 23.3 million. (Denpost April 15)
Landslide in Campuhan, One Killed
Bebun, 34, a laborer from Jember, East Java, was killed in a landslide near the Campuhan River, Ubud, on Wednesday (14/4). Laborers that are working in the BUIP project by the river were having a break, while the others were taking a bath. Abruptly, the cliff above their heads, bamboo trees and stones fell on them. Flying Abroad Banned for BDB Owners
General Directorate of Immigration warned Ngurah Rai Immigration Office to watch for any directors of PT Bank Dagang Bali that might try to fly abroad. Five directors and two owners of PT Bank Dagang Bali (BDB) are banned to fly aboard in relation to financial fraud allegedly committed by them. (Nusa April 13)
Nepotism in World Bank Project in Denpasar
The street lights project in Denpasar that is financed by the World Bank fund was reported to Bali Police on Wednesday (7/4) because of nepotistic involvement. A resource in Bali Police Crime Dept. said the complaint does not only involve the tender committee but also important officials in City Government. (BP April 10)
Drugs in West Nusatenggara
Assistant on Economy and Development of West Nusatenggara, Drs. H. Abdul Malik said that West Nusatenggara is now a marketing and transit area networks. In addition some international narcotics fugitives have been arrested in West Nusatenggara. They are going there because West Nusatenggara is considered a safe hiding place. (BP April 9)
