Have YOU ever counted how many pairs of shoes, bags, beads & belts you have purchased in 2007? I bet if you did this little exercise with every bit of shopping over the year, it would fill a large sized market stall! And then ask yourself - what pieces do you get the wear from? bet you, half of it just ‘sits’ in your cupboard! So when you fall passionately in love with ‘that next piece’ just think hard about how much you have? Still, you only live once, and if it’s shopping that keeps you going, then spend as though there is no tomorrow! at least it keeps the shopkeeper’s happy including yourself!

Deefusion – this chic showroom (Jl Oberoi, Seminyak, almost opp Paul Ropp) houses a range of classy ‘in and outdoor furniture’ I love every piece! Even if your taste is more antique/older style you can’t help but marvel at these modern masterpieces that will vie to rub shoulders with your own home furniture. If you are after someone talented with fresh new ideas to style your home/office/villa/hotel complex (with either furniture from Deefusion or other furniture & furnishings) then do make contact with Isabelle, a well informed Bali based interior decorator that must know more stores than I do! iraison@deefusion.com

Oh, spied another retail development going up on the corner of Jl Oberoi / and the road going up to Grocer & Grind. More shops to excite and entice?! I have to comment that G & G make the best toasted panini’s ever, try the roasted vegetables with chili jam and a café, Yum! It will certainly add pep to your step to move on up the road to check out on more shopping haunts. And if I heard right today, believe that a BIG shopping complex is going up on Batu Buleg, Seminyak down near the beach?

Rama for yr Jungle Beads: Jl Seminyak, next to the original Heliconia (for fab flowers) & just up from Kerry Grima’s (for fab fashion) Now here we go again, another load of beads, but having reviewed this store a year or so ago, my recent visit had me shaking my head in amazement. This showroom is positively stuffed full of beads in any combo that one can think of, you can also buy beads in bulk & make up your own collection. Rama has a definite vibe & a fossicker’s dream!

Liana
Fashion stores open and then they close, Liana is one store that just keeps trading on! Liana fills a very nice niche in fashion merchandise which is mostly made up of natural fibres comprising of organic hand woven cotton, naturally dyed silk & silk cotton. All fabrics have been dyed by traditional methods using organic dyes from mahogany, bark, mangrove leaves & mango roots. There are plenty of earthy tones of tobacco, terracotta, coffee, apricot & moss along with white & cream in unstructured & interchangeable co-ordinates, comprising of pants, tops & jackets. Sizes from petite to plus. If they don’t have stock or your size then they will try to make it up & deliver in 48 hrs, now that’s what you call service! You will find Liana on one of the most popular and sought after ‘happening’ streets - Jl Kunti, No 3 Seminyak (just along from Bali Deli)

And another store that continues with regular patronage over the years is, G & V AMAZING CRAFTS, Jl Laksmana, 99x Basangkasa, Seminyak. Pepe the owner is one of Bali’s original character’s, an architect & interior designer who produces high quality furniture, accessories & a collector of antique pieces & unusual items which are displayed all around the showroom. Like any good Italian guy, Pepe can also bake! producing melt in your mouth tasty savoury & sweet bread treats found in the petite bakery at the front of the showroom. Design though is Pepe’s passion which can encompass many aspects, from an original idea to the quality materials used, to the clever craftspeople that actually handcraft the product. Pepe is most concerned about holding onto the glorious traditions of Balinese handcrafted works, particularly in these changing times of business commercialization. G & V Amazing Crafts should be on everyone’s shopping trek.
