Mami Lucy Chandra: Feng Shui Master

Mami Lucy was born in 1950 into a Chinese family in Jakarta. She started her professional career as the assistant to a ballroom dancing instructor. Since she was a teenager, she felt the urge to help people, so in 1982 she decided to learn about the Chinese Horoscope, Western Horoscope/Astrology, and eventually the Ancient Chinese Tarot. From her study of Astrology she realized that even though she could read the stars, she still wasn’t able to give sound advice and offer solutions, so in 1989 she decided to learn Feng Shui in Malaysia and Singapore. Mami Lucy attracted her first clients in 1987 and starting working with clients on Bali in November of 2005.

How and why did you first study Feng Shui?

Every first daughter in my family was born with a special gift for being able to predict the future. This gift becomes more pronounced when they reached the age of 40. I now put my gift to use by helping my friends, my family, the general public, now even the celebrities and dignitaries from the Indonesian government. My clients are from all nations, religions and levels of society.

Briefly, what is Feng Shui? Is it a religion, philosophy, science or art?

It’s all of these. Feng (air) and Shui (water) are the two most important elements in life. Feng Shui is rooted in the ancient Chinese belief in the balance between Yin and Yang, Air and Water, and People with all their surrounding energy fields. Feng Shui is the collaboration of nine directions of Air (west, east, north, south, center, northwest, southwest, southeast, and northeast), mathematical logic, Chinese and Western horoscopes, plus the skill, art and intuition needed to apply the discipline. Everybody may be able to learn Feng Shui, but may have difficulties implementing it properly without this special knack.

What are some examples of solutions that you offer?

Feng Shui solutions can change the layout of a home both in major and minor ways. Minor ways are doing things like relocating the kitchen or sleeping direction, both of which actions can better a person’s life. Major changes such as moving out of the house or office may be necessary if the circumstances are really difficult, though this is rare.

What is the biggest challenge you face in your work?

Many things. I have solved family problems, helped people make career choices such as determining a suitable business for them to enter into, teaching celebrities how to handle fame. I also help people with drug addictions or abnormal sexual orientation. By implementing Feng Shui, it helps to maintain a balance with all the surrounding energies. This in turn leads you to make the right decisions in life.
What do you like most and least about your work?

If my clients really follow all of my recommendations with full attention to detail, then they will definitely eventually get what they expect. Timing is also an important element of Feng Shui. I am so sad when my clients don’t follow what I recommend. That’s the same as someone visiting a doctor for a cure, then not buying the medicine the doctor prescribes afterwards.

What makes your practice of Feng Shui different from that of other masters?

My training in astrology has influenced the way I practice Feng Shui. I use the nine directions of Feng Shui and I also tend to immediately recommend minor adjustments. Major solutions, such as moving out of your house, can come later in a natural way.

Do you also consult outside of Indonesia?

I have traveled to more than 50 major cities in Indonesia, as well as to other countries such as Singapore and China, with my manager.

Can you give us some examples of how the practice of Feng Shui has helped businesses or people you have worked with? Any success stories?

My clients mostly come to me for career advice. For example, I suggested to an Aries male, born in 1974, whose main element is northeast, that he should become a consultant, teacher, doctor or healer. Aries is also a good sign for sales and marketing. So this person became a marketing consultant in the pharmaceutical business and runs his own business in health products. Of course the first step to open up the way for him to get what he expects from his career is to correct his house lay-out first – establish a good direction for sleeping, a favorable desk location, good kitchen location, and so on.

Can it be dangerous not to practice Feng Shui?

The proper practice of Feng Shui brings harmony and balance. Wrong Feng Shui practice leads someone to take fatal decisions in life. One must also make sure that your house is facing in the proper direction with the right balance maintained between the land (green dragon part is higher than white tiger part) and the shape of the land and building is square with no missing edges. The wrong location of an aquarium/water/pool may lead to a stagnant career or business. The worse outcome is that your love partner could cheat on you.

Do you have any future plans?

I would like to be an international Feng Shui master so that I can help more and more people tap into this very effective life force. Feng Shui is applicable for humans of all ages, as well as animals. It can be employed when correcting the placement or use of a small space like a room, but also can be used in “fixing” a house, a city, or even a whole country. Did you know that the present government of China applies Feng Shui principles in all the country’s public places? This is why China is such a successful and prosperous country today.
