Six-year-old Patricia Goeyardi lives with her parents and
her two-year-old sister in downtown Denpasar. This happy,
slightly chubby schoolgirl likes to play football and basketball.
Since she was just three months old, Patricia has been traveling
between Denpasar and Surabaya where her grandparents live
as well as many other places around the globe. She has in
fact spent so much time flying that her father claims only
half-jokingly that she grew up in airplanes. Patricia believes
that all the traveling she’s done from an early age
has taught her how to adopt to changes and new environments
quickly.
What places have you been in your life?
I have been to most of the tourist areas of Bali and I really
love the Odyssey submarine tour in Amuk Bay . It was so amazing!
I’ve also been to Jakarta and Solo where my mom’s
family lives. The furthest I’ve been is Canada which
I love in the winter because I can play in the snow with my
cousins. I once went to Tokyo Disneyland and I wish I could
also one day visit Disneyland in other countries. I love the
food in Hong Kong . I like to taste the food in the different
places because I like to eat!
Where do you go to school?
I attend the first grade at the Taman Rama elementary school
on Jl. Cokroaminoto in Denpasar. My dad thought it would be
a good idea for me to have a strong working knowledge of English.
That is why he sends me to take English classes where we even
learn about most subjects in English.
What are your favorite classes?
I like Math, Science, Computer training, English Text and
English Language classes.
Who’s your favorite teacher?
Miss Julie Suwitra, my homeroom teacher, is my favorite teacher
because she is like a mother to us pupils. She comes from
Australia . A few months ago, Miss Julie went back home and
returned to Indonesia with koala dolls and boomerangs as souvenirs
for all students in the class. We were so happy!
How many languages do you speak?
I speak English at home with my mom and dad. I’m also
learning Mandarin. Dad has suggested that I study other languages
too, so I am planning to one day learn French because I think
it sounds cute!
What are your hobbies?
Reading , watching movies (I especially loved High School
Musical), singing and having my picture taken. My little sister
Vanessa and I sometimes model for the fashion pages in Tabloid
Bunda (Jawa Pos Group) while we are on holidays in Surabaya
. We both also have won around 30 thropies in ‘photogenic
contests’ in Bali and Surabaya. I was also a finalist
in Jakarta’s ‘Disney Princess’s Magazine
Photogenic Contest’ twice. For more than a year now
I have taken violin lessons at BAVISCH as well as piano classes
at Sekolah Musik Irama Indah. I have been participating in
two violin concerts sponsored by BAVISCH and also two small
piano concerts at the music school. In my spare time, I also
take swim lessons, a drawing course with Pak Made, an art
teacher, and a Balinese dance course with Miss Tini. The first
Balinese dance I learned was the Rejang.
What do you feel you do very well?
I think I’m good at memorizing songs and poems. I took
part in a poetry reading contest at the Taman Rama School
last April 2006 and I won the first prize by reading a poem
titled “Yasan Ibu Kartini”. It was a lot of fun
for me because I haven’t quite mastered Balinese yet
and the contest made me want to learn more about this unique
language.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
My wish is to be a doctor one day. This was also my dad’s
dream when he was a kid. My dad’s a doctor now. His
full name is Dr. Alainsoen Goeyardi, MBA. I think to be a
doctor is the best way to help people. I have a dream to own
my own hospital for needy people one day. I have mentioned
this many times to mom and dad. They always smile and listen,
but one day I want to really prove it to them that I can make
my dream come true.
