An interview with Amana Virani, well-known spiritual teacher
and healer, who is in Bali teaching a fascinating new course
called the ‘Matrix’, which ventures ‘behind
the scenes of the soul’...

‘ Amana Virani, you were initiated into the 26th generation
of an unbroken line of ‘Cuyanderos’ shamen, and
you’re in Bali to conduct a fascinating series of workshops.
Welcome... (Amana Virani: ) Thank you. (Jeli Lala: )
Firstly, how do you become a Cuyandero shaman? Do you
find them, or do they find you? It’s both.
So with me or with anyone who choses to walk this path, it’s
a soul contract. To the level I’m walking it,
it’s a soul contract - an agreement made before we incarnate.
How did that get activated? Usually when it’s
a soul contract, you’re put into the situation and you
don’t really know why or how. You’re put there
and you go there and your conscious mind doesn’t necessary
know. Did you notice something about the Cuyanderos
and you went and joined a workshop? I received
a flyer and I had never gone to any kind of seminars and there
was something about this class. And suddenly I had everything
worked out so I was available to go, which as a single mum
is not to be taken for granted! And when I saw my teacher
I knew ‘this was it’. And that was instaneous?
It took about thirty minutes. So you’re sitting
there in that class and you realise you’re going to
be a shaman? At that time I didn’t see that potential
inside of me... I didn’t think where it would go, I
just knew that ‘this was it’ and I just took one
step at a time. If someone had told me I would teach that
within two or three years I wouldn’t have believed them!
Do ‘Soul Contracts’ always get activated?
Is it possible to be alive and not to fulfil...? Usually
what happens when people don’t fulfil their soul contracts,
they get a ‘wake up’ call. An accident or
some kind of shock happens. I’ve read that it’s
common for a shaman to have some kind of accident and that’s
what leads them... I had an accident when I was very small
that I now know was an initiation. This scar... (pointing
to forehead) is shaped like a celtic rune meaning ‘feo’
– fire. I always knew it had meaning... People
also recognise me by this scar, even if they haven’t
seen me for twenty years! Like Harry Potter!!
(laughter) Yes and then Harry Potter came around and it was
like – great!
Can you tell us a about the matrix course? We go into
the original matrix that your soul set up before you incarnated.
Five different matrices. Five levels. The matrix
is the original picture of the contracts you made of what
you are going to do in this lifetime. Like, one of my
contracts is to spend part of this life teaching this work.
Another contract was to give birth to my son, and another
is to give birth to another child. So there are different
contracts that we make and they are part of the soul matrix,
which deals with areas where we don’t have choice.
Once it’s made, it’s a contract, you signed it,
and you have to fulfil it. Where we have choice and
free will is – whether I teach light language in Bali,
or in Timbuctoo! So you have choice about the style
of the fulfillment? Yes, or maybe I would have
had choice about becoming a light language teacher when I
was 35, rather than 23. Where we do have choice
is in the Destiny Matrix. Often we don’t
see all the choices we have. We are limited because
we think that “it’s the only way”.
If we don’t have it like ‘this’ then we
don’t have it at all. The Destiny matrix is about looking
at all the possibilities and the choices you want to make.
Is the Destiny like the ‘how; and the others are like
the ‘what’? Yes. That’s the creative
part, and if we didn’t have that part, it’s like
‘your life would be written’. That would
be rather boring! Exactly! What other matrices
are there? Next is Karma. Before the soul incarnates
it says, ‘I have this much karma to work through, and
in this life I’m going to work through say, 10% of it’.
And the way is maybe through an agreement to have a relationship
with someone and to work with them. Or maybe it’s
by making an agreement to do service. Then the Energy
matrix is about how you use your vital force. There
are ways we use our vital force that take years of our life
because we are wasting our life energy. How? By
overdoing, by not having boundaries, allowing others to drain
us, suck our energy. The energy matrix aligns that.
The last one is the Experience matrix. How we integrate
experiences. Usually, when we have an experience, we
don’t really know what it’s about. Like
we go through a certain relationship and it ends and we don’t
know why. To handle it, we make up a story about it.
We say ‘it didn’t work out because the guy was
an idiot’. That’s the illusion we create
to handle the story, the experience. As long as we’re
in that illusion and don’t get the lesson, we’re
going to continue to get the lesson again and again.
You mean, ‘keep attracting idiots’!? Yes!
As soon as you get it, that yes, the guy was an idiot and
that wasn’t why it didn’t work out... maybe
the reason was you didn’t set boundaries on the guy
behaving like an idiot...then the lesson registers.
So the experience matrix is like a tally sheet? Yes,
like classes you took and double check, did you get the class?
So the process of doing the course is what? We talk
about the different symptoms - like if one matrix is more
out of alignment we talk about how that looks. For example,
if a person has a problem with the soul matrix, then they
have fear issues. So we talk about that, and then we
learn how to find out what kinds of issues a person has and
which matrix needs to be activated first - which is most out
of alignment. We also learn about activating different
parts of the matrix... the part that is concerned with cash
for example, or the part that is concerned with relationship.
Like, if a person has a part of the soul contract concerned
with relationship that they’re not fulfilling, I would
want to activate that, to bring in the soul mate, for example.
The way the actual activation happens is table work. Table
work? So, meaning work on a massage table. It’s
kind of a ‘hands-on’ work. And for most
of the activations the hands are off the body and held in
the energy field of the body in very specific positions, in
mudras. It’s very powerful, deep work. One
activation takes between seven and thirty minutes. Is
it you that does it? In the course, you learn to do
them. So people practise on each other? Exactly.
So you learn to become an ‘I AM’ (matrix) practitioner.
And after, you can offer sessions to people to align and activate
the matrices. You are working with another teacher...
A colleague, Pamela Burr, teaching Multi Level Manifestation,
working with magic cubes. It’s a way of aligning
energies on different levels to work towards a particular
goal. One of the things you learn is to set boundaries,
especially on psychic attack. I hear there’s a
lot of dark energy in Bali? Yes. There is a lot of dark
energy, there is a lot of light energy. You have to
have both...?. It has to do with the Balinese belief
that they are here to create harmony. If you have that
belief, then in order to create a lot of light, you need a
lot of dark! How about the schedule? The schedule
is morning and afternoon, so people can either take both classes
in parallel, or just take one and have half a day off, on
the beach, holiday, integrating. Because the work is
so intense, it’s great to have that integration time.
The best thing about the work? The great thing about the work
is it can reach places where we don’t usually go...
the realm of the soul. Like the movie, ‘The
Matrix’ - they’re in the matrix and as long as
they’re in the matrix they don’t get to look behind
the scenes. And in this work, you get to look behind
the scenes. It’s very beautiful.
