Water – The Very Stuff Of Life

Fascinating research on the memory of water.

Water. The stuff of life. It makes up more than 70% of our body mass and 70% of our planet. Early cosmonauts looked back at the Earth from afar for the very first time and remarked ‘it is so beautiful and blue!’

Ripples in a pool, a sparkling lake, a splashing brook, a dashing waterfall. Ice. Snow. The sea. A stagnant pool, a still well, a puddle. All water, yet they all have very different energies, don’t they? We are all sensitive to ‘atmospheres’ and feelings, much more so than we often give credit for. We instinctively know when a place has ‘good energy’. Yet walk into a room after an argument and the hair on the back of your neck rises. And in a place where something dreadful has happened, an imprint remains - I hear, no birds sing at Auschwitz; apparently even now an eerie silence reigns.

Well, some fascinating research from Dr. Masuru Emoto, a Japanese researcher, indicates that water responds and reacts to the surrounding environment in some surprising ways. In the same way that a drip in a pool creates myriad emanating ripples, it seems the very molecular pattern of water is itself affected by some surprising things and kind of ‘remembers’ feelings or events.

Dr. Emoto takes samples of water from pure, benign, and foul sources (a sacred spring, tap water, a polluted lake) freezes the water, and then takes photographs of the crystals that result. Then he tries praying over the water, playing music to it, or sticking a label on the sample with a name such as ‘Mother Theresa’, ‘Ghandi’ or ‘Hitler’ on it, freezes it again, and then photographs the results.

Skeptical or not, if you feel in need of inspiration, check out the lovely images (at website: http://www.wellnessgoods.com/messages.asp). So beautiful, like snow crystals, like diamonds, actually, very much like diamond jewellery. Delicate and pure. I could look at them for hours.

‘ Mother Theresa’ is a dainty white six pointed star. ‘Hitler’ is a horrible looking blob. A sample taped with the words ‘I hate you and I want to kill you’ is an ugly dark pattern, with a shape in it that looks to me like an armed soldier. Even an indifferent sample like distilled water magically transforms into a heavenly shaped crystal after a prayer has been offered over the water.

Not so far out as it may seem – research has shown that prayer has an effect on molecules, which seem to be influenced by the power of people’s intentions and thought patterns, even from far away. Even just focusing positive attention on a person who is sick has been shown to have beneficial effects. Our intentions and thought patterns are much more powerful than we realise, and emanate out into the world having real effects. And considering that we are made up mostly of water, perhaps the very ‘stuff’ of our bodies is receiving and recording the emanations and feelings of ourselves and those around us – and sending it onwards. So what combination of words has the most positive effect on water? Dr. Emoto favours ‘love and gratitude’. He says that this combination of words has the most beneficial effect on natural water. (For more see website: http://www.spiritofmaat.com/archive/nov1/cwater.htm)

He describes the Japanese characters that make up the word ‘gratitude’ – there is a sense of ‘apology’ in the word – a humility, perhaps, that he believes has the most positive effect. Perhaps the world would benefit from ‘love and gratitude’ right now?

Water meditation

In a comfortable, quiet space (maybe somewhere where you can hear water, or even in the bath) lie back and relax. You could ask a friend to read this to you, or play a tape of yourself reading it aloud:

You are standing on a beach looking out to the sea flowing gently in and out. Loved one(s) are by your side and everyone who has ever and does now love and support you – family (dead or alive), friends and colleagues - old and current, angels, fairies, higher self, God, all you can imagine and more – a whole hoard all behind you, there for you supporting you in whatever you do. Imagine that love and support flowing out into the beautiful sparkling blue water, making it pure, then flowing back through the water and into you.
See the water as infinite and pure, stretching around the whole world. Feel love and gratitude coming through the water into you and out of you again like sparkling bubbles of purity. See the life enhancing belief that will support you in moving to a higher level of coherence and consciousness. It comes floating towards you. Perhaps it is something like: “I express and manifest what I truly want for myself.” Or something else. It comes floating towards you in some form and you find a way of absorbing it into your body. Take a deep breath and gently come back to the room.

A nutty thing you can try: Dr. Emoto says:We have not tried this, but some people who have read my book are experimenting with bottling tap water and taping words like ‘’love’’ and ‘’appreciation’’ on the bottle and using that water to water their plants, or to put cut flowers in. They are finding that their cut flowers are lasting much longer, and that the plants in the garden are much more radiant.” I suppose it’s similar to ‘Feng Shui’ in a way – the Chinese method of arranging spaces pleasingly to create ‘good energy flows’ and a pleasing living environment. I always think that putting positive thoughts into the food when cooking has a great effect on the flavour. Now’s a good time to check out your water sources, tanks, taps, water dispenser bottles – clean all the taps, make sure all is fresh and pure.

Why not put a little ‘love and gratitude’ into your water and sprinkle it about?
