Gratitude

The other day I saw a very crumpled up poor looking old man in the street.  His body was all twisted and he was pushing along a heavy cart of odd broken things to sell.  And he had the hugest smile on his face I ever saw!  He was grinning from ear to ear.  I looked at him and thought ‘he must be an idiot!’  and then thought, now who’s the idiot?  The rich people choosing to be miserable or the poor man choosing to be happy?

There were lots of other people in the street, with straight, healthy looking bodies, nicely dressed, and many very grumpy looking faces!  Interesting!  There is not necessarily a link between circumstances, and feelings, you know.  It is possible to choose to be happy, no matter what.  The key, is gratitude.  An attitude of gratitude, for all the wonderful things we are blessed with.  Good food to eat (or even – any at all!), nice clothes, good health, a roof over our heads, friends.  Take a deep breath and feel the abundance all around you.  Notice any areas where you feel grumpy or dissatisfied and see whether, in fact, there are good things in there too that you could feel deeply grateful for if you chose!

If your relationship troubles you, maybe there are some aspects of it which deeply nurture you?  If your work is boring, can you be grateful that it’s easy for you to do and brings you a paycheck at the end of the month?  If you are overweight, can you be grateful that you have plenty of food to eat and have enjoyed eating it?  Get creative and have a go at feeling really happy and satisfied with your lot.  And if you find something that you can’t be grateful for, just bless it.  Blessing something is very powerful – you are projecting your power as a Godly being to a situation or person, which is deeply transforming and empowering.

Gratitude Meditation
In a quiet place, relax, breathe deeply, and focus within. Visualise yourself walking through a very peaceful green forest, feeling safe and happy.  You come to a forest clearing and a guide comes forward to meet you. Greet them, and they guide you into a helicopter.  You take off slowly upward. You feel safe and travel to a place where you can look down on your life.  See yourself at home.  What are you doing? How are you thinking and feeling?  Allow any thoughts and impressions to come to you and bless anything negative and let it go.  Now see yourself at work.  Again experience your actions, thoughts and feelings.  Bless anything negative and let it go.  Now do the same with your relationships.  Bless and release anything negative.  At the end of the journey, your guide gives you a gift and brings you back to the forest clearing.  You take the gift with you, knowing that its essence will travel with you.  Gently return to the room.

If you find it difficult to feel grateful, it may be that you are stuck in the habit of feeling bad!  Imagine going through life like that when all the time you had the choice to feel happy every day!  A wonderful hint when you feel bad is to raise your vibration.  Emotions all have different vibrations.  That’s why we feel them coming from other people, which we do through our aura, the magnetic field around our bodies.  Emotions such as anger, sadness, fear, have low vibrations.  Higher vibrations include love, compassion, wisdom, altruism.  Do whatever you need to do to raise your vibration – meditate, go into nature, play the guitar, go fishing, or simply have the intention ‘raise my vibration’.  This will take you out of the emotional self and into the higher self which has a broader perspective and will make you feel more optimistic and able to be loving.

Another useful hint is to try looking at a situation three ways – Emotional, Mental, and Intuitive.  For example, if you are worrying about finding a school for your child, the Emotional response might be ‘I’m never going to find a decent school!’ the Mental might be ‘I’ll look around and I’m sure I’ll find the right place’ and the Intuitive might be ‘just relax have the intention of finding the perfect school and you will‘.  This approach is great if you have trouble in trusting your intuition – identifying the Emotional and Mental input enables you to then be clear that the Intuitive information actually is the intuitive information!

So, back to gratitude and blessings, and why bother creating all this good feeling?  I hope the question answers itself!  Actually there is deeper method in this madness, if you care to enroll in my do it yourself abundance masterclass.  All you need to do is practise feeling gratitude this week.  And every time you catch a negative thought towards someone or something, I want you to immediately tack on – oh bless it!  on the end.  For example ‘oh God, John’s moaning again’ – ‘Bless him!’  This will add humour and sweetness to your life.  And once you are smilingly pushing your cart, you will be ready for the total abundance class coming in my next article –  about how to attract what you really want in your life.  Bless you!
