Sunshine – bringing a ray of light into your life

Well today is perhaps not the best day for me to be writing about sunshine!  Feeling totally depressed, a bit like Tinkerbell when her light’s gone out!  Ach!  What to do!  How to re-kindle myself?  Well I suppose the first thing I do when I feel a bit low is to remember... it will pass!  We’re like sounding boards for feelings – they just pass through us, resonate, and move on.  If we let them!  Always best to surrender to feelings, just – well - feel them and then they dissipate magically.  It’s only the feelings we hold on to that get stuck in us and cause a problem.  The other thing to do of course is just give myself permission to feel low.  Not so bad is it?

A friend took one look at me this morning and recommended ‘a yellow crystal at the solar plexus’.  The solar plexus (‘sun centre’) is just beneath the rib cage and is perhaps a more primitive energy centre – not exactly a chakra, it has more to do with primal ‘fight or flight’ type responses and is also the centre of ‘gut feeling’ – I often find I’m placing my hand here when wanting to get in touch with my feelings.  It is however a centre of light and radiating energy and mine seems to be turned off at the moment!  A yellow crystal placed here (yellow calcite for spontaneity and fun perhaps) would help!  Wearing yellow would also be good.

Today I am wearing an outrageous big black furry hat which makes me feel good because it is definitely ‘me’.  Not exactly cheering me up yet, but it is inducing smiles all around me!  Blah!

Tell yourself a positive story
Like many of us, I have a tendency to tell myself negative stories – about just about anything!  For example, if I don’t hear from someone I imagine it’s because they are angry with me or not interested in me! when half the time it’s just because they are busy with their own lives, nothing to do with me!  Do you do this too?  What would it take to tell a positive story?  A creative, positive story?  However outlandish that might seem!  Here are some other ‘cheer-ups’:
An Attitude of Gratitude
Take ten minutes to list some of the things you are grateful for in your life.  Even if life seems a bit bleak, there are still loads of things to be grateful for.  Nature for example, the simple beauty of a flower or leaf.  A delicious cup of tea, a piece of toast.  Ah, this is working, I feel better already!

Talking to God
The other thing I find helps is to talk to God (as in the ‘Conversations With God’ books).  This requires only paper, pen and willingness, and is available to all, not just gurus and sages!  If you’d like to try it, take a pen and paper and start a dialogue (for example):

J hello God!
G hello Jeli how are you?
J ach feeling a bit down!
G why’s that?
J feeling that my life is a bit off-track...
G well maybe you need to go away on your own for a bit...

And so on!  Just allow it to be as it is, the first thing that comes into your head.  Let God talk to you.  You may be amazed at his sense of fun, irreverent (yes!) wit, and non-judgmental wisdom.

Wonderful Healing Relationship Meditation
This is beautiful – from Chuck Spezzano’s ‘If it hurts it isn’t love’.  It takes you to a deeper level in your relationships – try it on any or all relationships ‘good’ or ‘bad’.  It really works.

Imagine you the ‘other person’ are standing on top of the sphere of your relationship.  Gradually see both of you sinking down together through the misunderstandings and illusions, to a deeper essence of your relationship.  Keep sinking deeper and deeper into the essence until you become aware of the relatedness and feelings below everyday living.

Sunshine Meditation For Radiance And Charisma
Sitting in ‘easy pose’ (cross-legged, with a straight spine, slightly tucked chin) clench your fingers into your palms and extend your thumbs.  Now raise your arms above your head so they are at sixty degrees to your body.  This is the angle at which the sun strikes the earth.  Have your thumbs pointing straight up.  You’re going to energise yourself from the sun, feeling it pouring in through your thumbs like antennae.  Now begin ‘breath of fire’ – just like a dog panting ‘ah ah ah!’ but with the mouth closed.  This breath is powerful and pumps the blood all around the body and also multiplies the benefit tenfold.  (Substitute long deep breathing through the nose if tired or menstruating.)  Continue for three minutes, focusing on the third eye and imagining the golden rays of the sun pouring in through your arms and filling your heart.  On completion, take a deep breath, float your hands down gently to your sides, imagining a radiant aura of light surrounding your body like an egg, up to three metres in every direction above and beneath you.  I wish you radiance and...cheer!
