What tickles you? Sensual delights – oceans of ice-cream
with macadamias and caramel, vistas of misty mountains, the
smell of skin, magenta orchids, a steak pie cooking, the flutter
of sensual silks and velvets, a great night out laughing with
friends, a child’s smile, a funny movie…
Meditation – Pleasure Trip
(If you find visualising difficult, imagine the feeling or
sound of the experience instead).
Relax, breathe, and find yourself in a beautiful place that
you love. Notice what is around you. Pick up any treasures.
A paper airplane flies towards you and you catch it. Some
designs are written on it in light colours. You enjoy looking
at it, then launch it into the air. Follow where it leads
you… The plane lands and a man picks it up and re-launches
it. Follow where it leads you… It lands and a woman
picks it up and launches it… Follow the journey…
A child picks it up and launches it… Follow where it
leads you. A wise person picks it up and launches it…
Follow where it leads you. When ready, gently return to the
room.
Where did your magic airplane take you? Reflect on where it
went when the man, woman, child, wise person directed the
flight.
Important Archetypes
The man, the woman, the child, and the wise person are four
important identities that we all have within us. The Masculine
is active - the one that works, earns cash, plans, creates,
is physical. The Feminine is the one that feels – the
intuitive dreaming part of you. The Child is your ‘inner
child’ – playful inventive creator. The Wise One
is your higher self. Each of these characters have preferences
that need to be expressed if you are to experience wholeness
and balance.
When I was a kid, we used to go on ‘fishing holidays’
with my Dad. Whereas, my Mum would have preferred the Costa
Brava, and I would have loved Disneyworld. We got the dreaded
fishing holiday every time! Which of your inner characters
is usually in the driving seat? And how did it feel when the
others took a turn to guide the airplane mission?
To fulfil ourselves and create what we truly enjoy, we need
to satisfy each of these different parts of ourselves.
Magical Mystery Tour
Relax breathe, and imagine you are holding a paper airplane
with light writing on it. It grows bigger and bigger and you
find yourself sitting on it. The man, the woman, the child
and the sage are behind you. They laugh and begin to push
you along, the plane launches, they all hop on and off you
go! Follow where it leads you, with all parties guiding…
When ready, gently return.
Releasing a Lack of Enjoyment
A lack of enjoyment is suffering, a pattern in which nothing
seems to go right, everything is difficult and life is a constant
struggle. It is possible to be so involved this pattern, you
don’t even realise you are doing it to yourself. If
this is your experience, or part of it, then you have an underlying
belief in struggle, suffering, and lack. You may even believe
that your life purpose is those things. Or be punishing yourself
for a mistake you feel you made in the past. Guilt creates
the need to punish oneself, and we may do this with illness,
accidents, grinding hard work, emotional pain, difficulty,
or poverty.
A profound soul-level belief that creates eternal suffering
is: “I’m not good enough to be here, and I must
stay here until I transform”. If you experience suffering
and a lack of enjoyment in your life, embrace and acknowledge
this belief to release it.
Meditation To Release Suffering & Guilt
Relax, breathe, find yourself sitting in a light airy place,
with a friendly guide. You are holding a piece of paper, and
you invite a symbol to appear on it representing anything
that you have done wrong in the past, anything you ‘owe’
something for or feel guilty about. The symbol appears. The
guide smiles, takes the paper and rips it in two, freeing
you. It becomes brighter and brighter until it disappears
completely. You are now free, with a clean slate. Gently return
to the room.
Enjoying Your Selves
Now an interesting exercise exploring what ‘enjoyment’
means to each of these parts of you. Fill in the following
favourites, in turn, for your inner Man, Woman, Child, and
Wise One. You may be surprised at what you find!
To give an example of how diverse these choices can be - my
inner masculine drives a black mercedes, eats steak pie, lives
in Hollywood, and enjoys Mel Gibson. Whereas my inner feminine
would choose a yellow sports car, eat salmon, live in France,
and watch Pretty Woman. The child loves pasta, whizzes in
a purple beach buggy, the wise one drives a van, lives on
an island and likes Ghandi!
Do your actual life choices feel like a combination of what
each inner character chose? Or is one character in control?
