Aperitif, the fine dining restaurant at Ubud’s The Viceroy, host the 2nd Trilogy Dinner, Saturday January 23. Aperitif, Locavore and Mozaic restaurants, all located in Ubud Bali, are collaborating on a series of 3 incredible dinners, creating a unique gastronomic trilogy over a 3-month span. Each dinner features all of the chefs (Nic Vanderbeeken of Aperitif, Ray Adriansyah and Eelke Plasmeijer of Locavore and Chris Salans of Mozaic). This one features seafood. Pre reservation is essential. After dinner music will be provided by Sammy Sax who performs saxophone to the finest selection of emotive music.. The 3rd in the series will be held at Locavore on February 20.

Das Bistro by Mamas has opened on The ByPass Ngurah Rai at 88A. Mamas is a name known to all in Bali either from their Kuta German restaurants or their product in Bali’s supermarkets. It is a café, restaurant and retail store open from 7.00 a.m. every day, for breakfast, lunch, dinner and in between. As you would expect, meat features prominently on the menu with prime cuts and a range of their famous German sausages, but seafood, salads and international snacks are also available.

Cafe des Artistes is a survivor. Once a lonely waring on a dead-end road on the outskirts of Ubud [Jln. Bisma] it has been a thriving restaurant now for many years. The secret has been reasonably priced comfort food, served with a smile. It has remained open during the pandemic, even though such action is not profitable, to keep faith with their staff and regular local customers. Many of the staff have been there for the 17 years of its existence, always a sure sign of good management. Whilst their steaks are easily the most popular dish ordered here my favourite has always been the Grilled Chicken Breast. It comes with a choice of sauces, for me the slightly spicy Provencale is always the best, and your choice of vegetables [mine a healthy broccoli and carrot – pictured]. Another regular attraction is their 100% perfect Thai Beef Salad, Yum Neua, a dish that is butchered all over Indonesia, as is its sibling Tom Yum Goong. Consistent quality and service with a smile, always a success!

Kilo Kitchen is on Jn. Drupadi, Seminyak. It is an International restaurant with strong Asian influences. Start with an Energy Booster [Red Cabbage Berry, with red cabbage, strawberry, lemon and honey, or an Apple Kale with kale leaf, apple, celery, ginger and honey], Mocktail [Lychee Lemonade, with lychee, lime, orange and lemonade] or Organic Fermented drink [Kombucha fermented tea of Beetroot, apple and basil or black cinnamon]. All drinks are available in ‘buy one get one free’ during the extended happy hour [3.00 till 7.00 p.m.]. Their Kilo Bowls are very popular. All are served with white or brown rice, quinoa or kale. The Bulgogi Chicken is with wasabi mayonnaise, the Pork Belly & Jowl is with chimichurri. Sandwiches can be a Meatball Baguette with beef meatballs, tomato, basil and parmesan. A range of exotic Tacos include Lamb [with herb crème fraiche, corn salsa and jalapeno], Duck [with avocado puree, chipotle and crisp chicken skin] or Beef Tongue [with garlic butter, apple miso slaw and jalapeno] Appetizers include a Spicy Duck and Pomelo, Octopus Nam Jim and Tempura Eggplant. Mains can be a slow cooked Beef Cheek, a Salmon Tuturuga or Squid Ink Rice. There are two options for set menus, the 1st is @ Rp. 110,000 [appetizer and main or main and dessert[, the 2nd @ Rp. 150,000 [appetizer, main and dessert].

Gypsy is found on jln. Munduk Catu, Canggu and is the home of Canadian Chef Robin Filteau-Boucher. Open all day, breakfast can be toast many ways [French, avocado, eggplant or eggs], or eggs the usual way with roasted potatoes or Hash Browns actually made on site. Or you can have Smoothie Bowls of goodness. Later dining can commence with a cold Green Pea soup made with coconut water, followed by Tuna Tacos or Tuna Tartare wrapped in rice sushi-style. Something different? A crispy Bacon Roll or a SLOPPY jack, pulled jackfruit tossed with BBQ sauce, coleslaw, avocado and cashews. There is also a Kids Menu with small serves, Refreshingly different!

CasCades, was the original fine dining restaurant at Ubud’s luxury resort, The Viceroy. It is still quite a unique and special place to dine, sitting as it is on the ridge above the valley in Nagi, just out of Ubud. Arrive at sunset and the only noise will be from the monkeys across the river fighting over sleeping space. For January they are offering 30% off your food bill and a complementary welcome cocktail [or mocktail]. The current menu includes dishes such as their Truffle Mushroom Risotto, and a Short Ribs Ravioli.
