Bali Barongs Bring Home A Swag Of Medals
Just four years after the Bali Barongs Swim Team was initiated, the team has successfully sent 13 young athletes to compete in the Aquadragons Open 2018, an event organised by the Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS).
Just under 250 swimmers from 16 swim teams converged on Jakarta to compete over the weekend of April 7 and 8th. Under the talented leadership skills of former Olympian and Coach Luisa Striani, the Bali Barongs finished 7th in the overall team scores with amazing performances from these up and coming athletes.
Over the course of the weekend, the swimmers continued to challenge themselves to achieve their individual goals as well as building a fantastic team dynamic. Team spirit and camaraderie among the group members was clearly evident in the the way they continued to motivate each other throughout the meet, with special focus on new teammates – some of them first time competitors at such an event.
Olivia Kerr Muir won the Age Champion for 11 year old girls followed by Nadia Felicia Winkler in 2nd place. 10 year old Emerald Kerr Muir came 3rd place in her overall age group. Both Kerr Muir girls were very keen to compete, despite the fact that they were only back visiting Bali on a brief vacation from the UK! The Bali Barongs girls relay teams won two gold medals and one silver medal while the boys relay team managed to win two bronze medals.
Medals and new personal bests were set by Charli Indiana Veale, Ezra Setianto, Laura Pet, Harrison Broue, Ayden Malik Grossinsky and Eashaan Rajebsohale. Amazing swimming improvements were witnessed in pool performances by India Campbell Bite, Amelie Von Harrach, Dinda Winkler and Dylan Jones.
The swim squad is always looking for new swimmers to join this fantastic team. Coach Luisa trains at Finns Recreation Club through the JSA program, starting from after school classes with excellent progression towards competitive swim squad training. With her personal encouragement and gentle yet persistent coaching, the Bali Barongs have developed into a high performance team, excited to share their passion for swimming with newcomers.
Bali Barong athletes compete again this month in the upcoming BSSA inter school swim meet on April 24th, many swimming in healthy competition against each other for line honours.
The athletes in this enthusiastic junior swim team hail from different backgrounds, ages and schools across the island with a good complement of swimmers from Canggu Community School, Bali Island School, Australian Independent School and Pro-Education. Their passion for swimming and commitment to an often gruelling early morning and afternoon training program have brought them together as a team – and it shows. Success at swim meets such as this year’s Aquadragons Open only comes from hard work, dedication, team spirit and of course, a good coach!

Make Mum Feel Like a Megastar!
For most of us, our mums (or Mr Mums) are instrumental in making sure we are well cared for, loved and looked after on a regular basis. From their role as driver, doctor, psychologist, mentor, chef, cleaner, carer to cop, a mother’s day is never done and many of us need to make more of an effort to show our appreciation for these megastars.
As Mother’s Day is just around this month’s bend on May 14th (note to self – mark on calendar!!) Body Temple is making sure it’s Mum’s Month for the whole of May so there are plenty of options and opportunities to show your favourite Ibu just how much she means to you.
What could be better than some pamper time without the pestering? Book her in for serious relaxation rehab with a 60 minute Warm Stone Massage experience and Body Temple will book the ankle biter into Cubby House Kids Club for two hours of free play time. Ahhhh….. the serenity!
Spa packages make great presents (hint, hint husband….) and May’s Go Glow combo is something every mum will appreciate. Start with a 60 minute Sandalwood Body Treatment, then get your glow back with the 45 minute Illuminating Radiance Facial followed by the refreshing and rehydrating tonic of cool, young coconut water post treatment.
Special treats can mean so much more when they are shared, so here’s an idea kids…… Why not choose a Mum’s Day pressie that will make memorable occasion for both of you. Book a mum and mini me manicure and sit side by side as your get your tips tidied! Buy one and get one free and don’t forget to ask about their cute nail art options. It’s a win win situation guys – you get brownie points, a day out with mum AND pretty painted nails.
Toni & Guy Essensuals understands that busy mums are just too time poor to bother with regularly blow drying their hair. Just can’t decide what to get Mum for Mother’s Day? You can custom design your present with a gift card from Body Temple Spa and let her decide what her body needs.
