It might be the slow season for tourism, but the hot season for festivals, charity events and culture simply never ends!

Ever checked out Ubud’s Onion Collective on Jalan Raya Pengosekan? Nestled behind the street’s D&D Tourist Info, this hostel, work space, and cafe is a great place to connect with environmental innovators and creatives of all kinds.

The Onion is also the venue for Art Geed Art’s A.R.T. YEAR 2019 festival program of monthly hands-on art days (all free), but the lunch buffet proceeds will go to vetted local charities. 31 March is the next monthly A.R.T. YEAR event,10 am to 6 pm. Except for those monthly charity events at the Onion, Art Geed Art is based as an Art Space and Art Café a few kilometers away in Penestenan. 25 year-old painter Geed has created an ambitious number of workshops with local artists and creative events for every age and skill level. Learn henna painting for your skin, try Balinese styles of painting, make your own Mala (J), make upcycled home décor, and so much more!

Charity dinner at the W! Rotary Club of Bali Canggu is continuing to raise funds for earthquake-displaced families of Lombok, with an excellent and well-managed homebuilding project that has already constructed 45 houses. Did you know that 2019 is the UN-proclaimed International Year of Indigenous Languages? Might be the right time to increase your knowledge and understanding of humanity, and here’s how.

Get a comfy seat at the second Bali Indigenous Film Festival in Ubud May 10 – 12. The night of the 10th is the gala grand opening at the Njana Tilem Museum on Jalan Raya Mas. Launching festival theme Stories that Matter, this will be a spectacular night of indigenous dances, feature films, dinner, and 12 visiting film directors. Screenings are May 11 – 12, of 32 films from 12 countries, at the Paradiso theatre on Jl Goutama Selatan.

This festival raises funds for the non-profit Ranu Welum Foundation of Central Kalimantan. The Foundation helps indigenous groups create their own pop-up film festivals in small regional towns throughout Indonesia.
