2018 Asian Games – 18 August to 2 September
In case you happen to be in Jakarta anytime during the 18th year of the Asian Games, you can witness anyone of 462 events in 40 sports ranging from cycling to sailing, baseball, boxing, karate and roller sports. The majority of events will take place at venues in Jakarta and Palembang, while a few will draw in the crowds at additional venues around West Java including men’s football matches in Bandung and Bogor. The Sanur Village Festival is back for the 13th year with a celebration of the arts, great food, culture and the environment. The festival’s theme this year is Mandala Giri, which translates to circle and mountain, the spiritual and cultural orientation for the Balinese. Some of the highlights of the Sanur Village Festival include fashion shows, culinary displays, sports competitions, environmental conservation programs and yoga demonstrations. Head to the different culinary stands and sample delicious local cuisine prepared by Balinese experts. You will also find photography exhibitions, a kite festival, golf tournament, fishing tournament and cycling tour. This family friendly event also attracts kids with a number of fun activities such as body painting, kite flying, beach games and a fun run for the whole family.

Another Night at the Opera with Dessy – 23 August
If you love opera you can listen to live Italian opera with the talented soprano Dessy Ananta Permatasari. Dessy began studying classical vocal training in 2010 at School of Music in Yogyakarta followed by additional studies at the Indonesian Institute of The Arts Yogyakarta as a soprano. She is also an active soloist in several orchestras in Yogyakarta. To go along with your listening pleasure you can dine on regional Italian food and enjoy the sounds of popular Italian arias with this emerging talent. Reservations recommended.
