Our Past Shall Not Dictate Our Future: I Am… I Can… We Will!
While there may be many Bali based children’s charities working tirelessly to ensure our island’s disadvantaged youngsters have the chance at a better life, few if any would be more invested in the future of underprivileged youth than Stella’s Child.
Working in conjunction with local orphanages, this Yayasan has formulated forward thinking, successful programs focused on motivating these young people to break the perpetuating cycle of poverty that may have prevailed through earlier generations. Through training and mentoring via their Life Skills, Entrepreneurship and First Employ programs, Stella’s Child strives to unlock the potential of underserved youth, helping them to fulfil their ambitions and realise their dreams. The idea is not about finding them a job, but enabling and furnishing them with the skills to find their own path to success, encouraging them to realise that their past does not dictate their future.
In an effort to showcase the success of these Job Training and Internship Programs, Stella’s Child invites everyone to attend their next charity fundraising dinner at The Trans Hotel on Saturday, September 1st. Prefaced by the theme: I Am, I Can, We Will, the evening promises to be a spectacular affair: not only offering an insight into the incredible work that founder, Tim Cameron and his band of talented mentors, volunteers and local business affiliates are achieving with their intensive training & development programs, but also introducing guests to this year’s inspirational interns and their incredible stories.
The evening kicks off at 6.30pm with a pre-event exhibition followed by an opening ceremony at 7.30pm featuring this year’s students. Under the creative direction of Angela Haffenden, students will demonstrate the importance of global citizenship, self-development and the notion that each of us can be a catalyst for change. Maintaining the momentum of the evening, master of ceremonies, author and acclaimed motivational speaker, Chris Robb will convene a TedX style talk based on mentoring and the vital role it plays in our lives. Guests will also get to meet keynote speaker Komang Andreas; a successful graduate from last year’s internship program who will share his personal journey to success along with his dreams for the future. The formal part of the program will conclude with a moving musical tribute curated by famous Belgian singer Jonathan Cerrada, featuring a performance by the Stella’s Child students.
A sit down feast, free flow wine from Cape Discovery and DJs are set to keep guests wined, dined and dancing throughout the evening. There will also be an impressive array of raffle and auction prizes up for grabs. These prizes have been generously donated by local Bali businesses, some of whom have become an integral part of the internship and job placement program and are keen to see these Stella’s Child initiatives continue for years to come.
Stella’s Child provides underprivileged youth with a blend of programs that increase their self-esteem and confidence as well as their employability. But they need our help to make this happen. The revenue raised through the fundraiser on September 1st will enable them to continue to provide these proven programs and services to Bali’s most underprivileged youth by funding scholarships to their Entrepreneurship and First Employ Programs, mentoring valuable life skills and encouraging these kids to reach for the stars.

An Active Hour Each Day Helps Them Work, Rest & Play
The start of a new school term means new experiences and new challenges and now that all of the kids are back at school it’s also time to sign them up for a fresh term of afternoon sport to get them motivated and moving again.
No need to be Einstein to establish that youngsters need to remain active. Numerous studies have provided conclusive evidence that kids who are physically active for at least an hour each day develop healthy sleeping patterns, have improved strength and endurance, tend to deal with physical and emotional situations in a more positive manner and are able to concentrate more effectively in class. With the bulk of today’s generation at the mercy of screens for work, rest and play, it is more important than ever to encourage our youngsters to get out and get active and JSA provides a multitude of opportunities to do just that!
Term One of the Junior Sports Academy’s After School Program commences from Monday, August 13th and, as usual, the line up of activities offers something for every young sports lover. This program runs for the duration of nine weeks and includes all the regular favourites. Gymnastics, swimming, tennis, trampolining, dance, soccer, parkour and rugby continue to make an appearance in the program as well as new addition, Mental Sports Preparation for something a little different!
This new offering gives credence to the mental and psychological factors that help to make athletes into champions. Mental preparation in sports is often overlooked, yet it is vital to sporting success. It exists to help athletes where other coaches, nutritionists, and trainers do not. Mental skills can help all ages and abilities benefit from the principles of sports psychology. Mental preparation is not only about encouragement, motivation or pre-match pep talks, it trains young athletes to be more confident, focused, resilient, and to develop a success-oriented mindset, in sports, at school, and life in general. JSA sessions are all guided by qualified coaches, each with years of experience in their respective sports. Some coaches are also available for private sessions for individuals or small groups.
