Festival Fun Days are Back at Finns
It’s baaaaaccckk! After a little hiatus throughout the long summer break, it’s back to school and back to the business of fun at Finns Recreation Club with the second of their Food and Wine Festivals. Free for everyone to attend it promises lashings of family flavoured fun where you can get your fill of food, free entertainment, liquid refreshments and retail therapy all in the one place on Friday September 1st from 3pm.
Join everybody on the lawn and let the kids run free for a while or bounce off the walls on the jumping castles. Speaking of bouncing… bigger kids or those of us still young at heart might be keen to take part in the not-so-serious new sports sensation, Zorb Soccer! An hilarious hybrid, the game appears to be a crossbreed creation of billiards, bumper cars and football and is seriously funny to see. Players’ upper bodies are encased in an inflated, ring shaped orb with only their lower limbs free to move. Zorbers form two teams and the concept of the game is much the same as soccer with a lot of bouncy contact! One of the best things about Zorb Soccer ( Snookball if you prefer to call it), other than side splitting fun, is that you are protected from sharp elbows and hard surfaces by one huge air filled floatie!
Cool off after your Zorb Soccer session with a few runs down the rides at Splash, however you’ll have to leave your Zorb ‘floatie’ behind as they’re NOT permitted on the slides, (as entertaining as that might be!) Splash is free for everybody from 3pm on Food and Wine Festival days at Finns so remember to bring your swimsuits.
All of that hydro fun can build quite a thirst but with no less than ten food and beverage vendors as well as Bistro C’s Smoke House serving up an international smorgasbord of snacks, you won’t need to search far to refuel and you can count on rehydration of a different kind at the bar. It’s drinks on the house for the first few shouts as each Finns member receives three free drink tokens to help get the par-tay started!
Tummy full and GnT in hand, take a stroll around the market and check out the wares on show from eighty market stall vendors. Find your next pair of active wear, sepeda motor seat covers, snacks, swimsuits, stylish threads, toys and tons more to tempt you to open your wallet. Even if you’re not up for any retail therapy (err…. like, as if!!!) sit back in a bean bag and enjoy the show! The evening is chock full of entertainment for everyone to enjoy with laid back tunes from acoustic guitarists, a magician to enthral the kids and DJ to keep the tunes rocking into the later hours and it’s all free!
If you’d like to be a market stall vendor at the next Finns Food and Wine Festival get in quick and contact

AquaMarine Diving – Bali’s Outstanding Opportunity for Indonesian DivemasterInternship
The Indonesian Archipelago, including our beloved Bali, boasts a stunningly diverse underwater ecosystem. Fed by the plankton rich waters of the Indo-Pacific, it creates the world’s richest marine bio-geographic zone, with diving opportunities to suit every level of ability and those seeking a myriad of experiences. With such amazing diversity, it is unsurprising that new, pristine, diving locations are discovered almost daily. Unique destinations bring new dive opportunities which drive dive operators to expand access to these incredible locations. Rapid expansion in the number of dive operators across Indonesia creates an ever increasing demand for well trained professional dive staff.
Recognising this demand, AquaMarine Diving – Bali believes there is a very real need to encourage the local community to join and work in this sensational industry. In 2012, the company took its own steps to encourage this participation and pledged to run an annual “11 Month PADI Divemaster Internship Programme for Indonesian Citizens”. A maximum of four coveted Intern positions are made available each year. This ensures each intern receives the maximum in individual and personalised training and attention required to complete this extensive professional course.
AquaMarine Diving – Bali is now seeking applications for the 2018 Internship. Throughout the entire 11 month program, each intern is assigned a personal AquaMarine Diving – Bali PADI Instructor as a one on one mentor who will assist in training from Open Water Diving, all the way through the various courses to become a PADI Divemaster. AquaMarine’s Senior PADI Instructors have been working the Indonesian waters for many years and know the local dive industry intimately. They are dedicated to passing on this expertise to the “next generation” of Indonesian scuba diving professionals through the world-acclaimed PADI professional training and certification programmes.
Within 6 months, each intern will have achieved the PADI Divemaster certification. Then the real work begins as they commence duties as Dive Guides for visiting divers under the supervision of AquaMarine’s senior staff. Through this steady process, they gain experience and hands on knowledge of their responsibilities which builds a solid foundation for their future professional careers in one of the world’s fastest growing industries.
AquaMarine is committed to, and firmly believes that it is vitally important to provide their interns with top quality guidance, and train them to become professional, safety and customer oriented Divemasters, ready to be employed in Bali or with other reputable dive operators elsewhere in the country. In 2017, AquaMarine’s 5th year of the programme, two interns Lynda and Herdi were accepted into and completed the course with flying colours. These two young people see a new horizon in their lives as diving professionals who have discovered a passion for introducing new divers to Bali’s underwater world.
Now you are invited to join these and many more who have passed through AquaMarine’s outstanding Intern program. If you are interested, or know of any young Indonesians who would be suitable candidates to join AquaMarine’s award-winning dive team, and be part of the 2018, 11 Month PADI DM Internship for Indonesian Citizens Programme’ starting 05 January 2018, please email: HRD-Dive@AquaMarineDiving.com for more information. Applications must be received by 31 October 2017. Go on! Get your feet wet!
Here’s Cheers to The Weekend
Brunch is BIG in Bali! But with most venues only offering this popular weekend staple on a Sunday, there is little in the way of similar feasts to choose from for a Saturday…..until now!
I get it…. Sunday is usually the ideal day to laze around sans Havaianas and heaving weekly schedules as most of us have been emancipated from the chains of weekday employment and what better weekend pursuit than to fill your belly full of unlimited treats for an hour or three. But what about those Saturday mornings when you wake from the TGIF night that was (you know, the one that starts with just one after work wine with friends then somehow winds up at the champagne bar at 3am… come on people you know you’ve been there!) and you need nutrition….STAT!!
Bistro C at Finns Recreation Club feels your post Friday night pain and has introduced their Saturday Brunch Buffet – Hooray for the weekend alright!! No need to wait until Sundays to satisfy your cravings for unlimited gourmet fare, come to Finns from 10am and get your foodie fill until 2pm. They’ll make you feel at home with a welcome drink on arrival, then you can replenish last night’s lost fluids with free flow iced water or refreshing iced lime tea, or even a hair of the dog if necessary. Reliable sources inform me Bistro C’s Bloody Mary is one of the best on the island. Super sized, spicy and garnished with a strip of smoky bacon, it packs the necessary punch to kickstart your weekend and propel you toward feeling human again!
Feeling better? Follow your nose towards that aroma of freshly cooked crepes, eggs any style and a carvery station serving up succulent smoky cuts to get your mouth watering. Load up with pastas, gourmet sandwiches and a bounty of healthy hot and cold selections to stack your plate and fill your tummy.
Scheduled at this stage for every Saturday from 10am till 2pm, Bistro C’s Saturday Brunch is open for everybody to attend, members, guests and holidaymakers alike and it won’t break the brunch bank. As far as Bali Brunches go, this one is extremely affordable at only RP250K nett for adults and RP150K nett for kids. Ideal for those of you who only want to have a few bevies with your brekky/brunch, you’re not tied in to a drinks package so you can choose to have just one glass of bubbles or a bottle if you please!
Bookings are advisable and you can choose seating inside in the air conditioning or make the most of Bali’s breezy weather at the moment and go al fresco. Don’t despair sports lovers. Just because you’ve chosen brunch over a bar stool in front of the weekend footy fixtures, you won’t miss any of the game because Bistro C now has over thirty screens showing every sport. Problem solved.
Why wait until Sunday to fill your tank? Don’t waste half of your precious days off sitting at home pondering your weekend program. Kickstart it with Saturday Brunch at Bistro C, here’s cheers to the weekend!
