Warung Gouthe, Jln Pantai Berawa, Canguu, is the perfect breakfast/brunch place. Open 7.30 a.m. till 8.00 p.m [COVID hours] they offer a French style menu but with a definite American twist. Omelettes are open and served in a skillet, mushrooms on top. The ‘Farmer Omelette is served with just bacon and toast and the Egg Pot [3 eggs, mashed potato, truffle oil, mushroom, parsley and cream cheese requires a surprising 30 minuet preparation time. The Mushroom Truffle Latte is a veloute served in a coffee mug with a brioche and alfalfa. The Boulaigou is a savoury crepe made with onions, tomato, cheese and crispy bacon. Gozmato is roasted tomato, mozzarella and basil served in a dough crust. On a sweeter side the French Toast can be traditional [pictured], or with Cinnamon or a Strudel version topped with apple, cinnamon and raisons.

 

10th Table, in central Lovina on Bali’s north coast, is hosting a charity dinner for Rotary Lovina, May 8. When you arrive you are greeted by an open Vodka & Rum Bar with canapés being served. The initial cocktail party is open from 5.30 till 6.30 when the dinner begins with a Poached Dory Fillet with lemon veloute, seaweed powder, dill mayonnaise and tuille. This is followed by a spicy Taro Cream Soup with bacon bits and a Tangerine Sorbet before the Chicken Involtini which will be served with a pumpkin puree, potato fondant and spinaxh. Finish with a Chocolate Mousse and salty caramel ice cream. The entertainment begins at 8.00. Total cost is Rp.350,000 nett per person with all proceeds going to Rotary Lovina charity projects.

As with all special events at Aperitif, it is also possible to book a luxurious pool villa for the night at the adjoining Viceroy to make your evening complete.

Mondays are for ‘Lobster Lovers’, Tuesdays give a shout out for ‘Ribs and More’. ‘Skewers All Ways’ – all by the ocean of course – are Wednesday’s offering, with ‘Crustacean Reef Style’ hitting up the Thursday crew. ‘The Mediterranean Affair’ is ‘oh so Fridays’, with Saturday exploring the best of ‘Jimbaran Style in Sawangan – featuring freshly caught snapper, white prawn, blue crab, lobster and more. On Sundays we see a uniquely South Asian flavor, with ‘Tandoor by Bopanna’.

 

Kebun, Jln. Hanoman, Ubud, is a French rrestaurant in a pleasant, very Baliense home and garden setting. Open from brunch time [11.00 a.m.] till late at night, inside is quite a sontrast to the busy street outside. The French Toast is served woith tpasted cashews, strawberries, sugar and cream. Eggs can be Benedict, Florentine or in an Omelette de Provence [3 eggs, goats cheese, tomsto and herbs]. Escargot are snails, sautéed in garlic parsley butter and topped with breadcrumbs, served with a baguette.   The main menu is more Mediterranean, with Moroccasn Mechoui [slow roasted lamb shank with coriander jus and cinnamon couscous. For soup, a classic French Onion, salad can be a tasty vegetarian [honeyed beetroot and goat cheese] or a Nicoise. Just a snack, there is always the very French Croque Monsieur. Herb roasted Lamb Chops, Steaks, seafood and chicken dishes are other options.
