Everyone’s A Winner @ The Cook

What began as a monthly pub quiz for a popular sports bar looks like becoming the next hot ticket to fundraising for local charities. Initially the James Cook Sports Bar in Kerobokan started quiz nights to attract more butts to their barstools until someone suggested using the night as a way to raise funds for a local, not-for-profit community group. Much to the delight of local charities like Bali Mother & Baby House and Bali Pet Crusaders, the trend has continued!

Basically, James Cook proprietors, Nikki and Matt generously offer the use of their premises free of charge for any local charity to run their very own quiz night using The Cook’s tried and tested formula and pub quiz expertise if required! There is no venue booking fee, charities are welcome to use their own questions and provide prizes with the entire amount of door takings going directly to that charity!

James Cook Sports Bar has a capacity for 50 and punters are drawn to the evenings by The Cook’s cold beers, great food and an opportunity to prove they’re ‘smarter than your average 5th grader’ plus the possibility of a prize along the way! A recent quiz evening in support of Bali Pet Crusaders saw some winners walk away with a Quad Biking voucher from Bali Island ATV!

If you know of any Bali based organisations needing an injection of funds and a chance to raise awareness about what they do, give the crew at The Cook a call on 0813 3892 0430 or email: jamescooksportsbar@gmail.com

Community Awareness Reaps Awards

They do say charity begins at home and this was never more evident than at Now! Bali Magazine’s 10th anniversary dinner at the Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort on February 13. Much more than just a celebration of the magazine’s decade of publication, the evening was also an opportunity to recognise the charitable efforts and contributions from businesses across the island community that have served to make Bali a better place!

The awards identified a range of community minded efforts such as preservation of traditional values, creating employment opportunities for disadvantaged communities, active social responsibility in environmental management, empowerment of local farmers, community and industry, conservation of an endangered Balinese species, promotion of local arts and culture and support of local charities to name but a few!

Appearing in impressive company, Finns was extremely honoured to receive a Community Achievement Award in appreciation of their continuous support for local charities; specifically their ongoing fundraising and volunteer work with local humanitarian NGO, Solemen Indonesia. The award specifically recognised Finns support for Solemen via their fundraising efforts at last year’s Melbourne Cup luncheon, as well as ongoing, annual assistance to the local charity by way of donations and urgently needed supplies.
