Well On The Way To A Waste Free Lifestyle

A decade ago, Bali’s collective war on plastic waste was in its infancy. Fast forward some years and we’ve witnessed a change in our approach to single use plastics with the ban on plastic shopping bags and the Bye Bye Plastic Bags initiative that helped get that ball rolling! This plastic free approach is also evident in the number of eco friendly retailers promoting waste free lifestyles with their growing range of ‘green’ products and packaging.

Zero Waste Bali is fast becoming one of the front runners for waste free living. What began with one small shop in Jalan Raya Semer in June 2018 has now grown into a 4 store strong movement towards a cleaner greener Bali! A wander around their newest instalment at The Joglo, on Jalan Subak Sari 13, Berawa reveals a vast array of glass jars filled with grains, teas, flours, fruits, choccies and cooking staples as well as green cleaning options, body products and environmentally friendly household items. Simply select, weigh and pay. Easy!

Don’t even mention ‘plastic bag’ in this store! Customers can bring in their own jars and containers to be filled with Zero Waste’s goodies, use the paper bags available (for grains and dry goods) or there are even a few donated jars that you can use/borrow for free if you forget yours! Something that’s even more exciting is their DIY lab at the back of the shop. Bring in your recipe (or use one of theirs) for your favourite body balm, toothpaste or scrub and you can use Zero Waste’s ingredients to create your own. All you pay for are the ingredients and packaging – use of the kitchen is gratis!
