The True Gift Is In The Giving…
For many kids across the globe, December 25th dawns with an excited dash down the stairs to see what Santa has dropped by the night before, but not every child enjoys the blessings of basic finances or even family to experience a Christmas the likes of most. Children who find themselves at orphanages like Jodie O’Shea House are simply grateful for the daily gifts of a safe place to sleep, three squares a day and the chance at an education before pondering the possibility of a brightly wrapped present under the Christmas tree.
In an effort to add some extra joy to the lives of these underprivileged youngsters, Finns Bali is delighted to bring you the Jodie O’Shea Wishing Tree. What began as part of Finns’ association and sponsorship of this Bali orphanage has become an annual Christmas tradition, now in its fifth year running! From December 1, the large tree takes pride of place in the Finns Recreation Club foyer, serving as a fitting centrepiece for the most festive month of the year.
Not only adorned with tinsel, bells and baubles, the tree also bears far more important decorations in the form of tags, each featuring the name, photo and description of every child at the orphanage along with their Xmas wish. Unlike some of the requests we hear from our own children, these wishes are for simple necessities or items many of us may take for granted.
Members, guests and friends of Finns are invited to select one tag or several then purchase the ‘wish’ recorded on the card for that child. Be sure to take the tags to the Finns reception team before you leave so that they can record the details and names of the child/children selected. Presents can be dropped back to Finns reception anytime prior to December 25th. The JOS kids have been invited to enjoy lunch and activities at the Recreation Club on Christmas Day, at which time they will be presented with their gifts.
The aim of the Wishing Tree is to ensure that each child from the orphanage receives a little something extra on Christmas Day. It’s not so much about the gift, more the opportunity to give and the chance to allow everyone, irrespective of background, religion or circumstance to feel special.
The Wishing Tree already stands resplendent in Finns foyer. Take a little time to stop and select a tag. It doesn’t take much more money or effort to add an extra item to your shopping trolley but it might mean the world to someone less fortunate. Cubby House Christmas Program Means Happy Holidays for Everyone
Whether you’re ready or not, Christmas is heading our way at what seems like warp speed and that means school is about to wind up for another calendar year. With so much to do before the festive break, having youngsters on holiday and hanging around the house can mean extra stress for mums and dads. Cubby House comes to the rescue with their Christmas Holiday Program!
Designed to entertain the kids and keep them out of your hair for a few hours each day, these fully supervised, activity filled sessions mean you can finalise some shopping, get your work done or even say yes to those silly season drinks or Christmas lunch invitations!
This year’s holiday program commences on Monday, December 3 through to Friday, December 28 and operates Monday to Friday only. Choose from two sessions each day – 10am ’til 2pm, or 2pm until 6pm or if your work day demands it, book them in for both! These fully supervised, four hour sessions feature a variety of different activities for each day, ensuring your cherubs are engaged, entertained and entirely safe while you enjoy some me time and get your jobs done!
Sessions are just IDR300K per child and include a healthy snack, juice, unlimited mineral water and craft to take home. Guided activities for this year’s holiday program include, dance, craft, Karaoke, face painting, movies, sports, musical chairs, and Christmas puzzles and deco designing!
Even if your child opts for a little quiet reflection time, Cubby House offers a wealth of toys, games, and educational activities that kids can complete independently or with the assistance of one of the centre’s fully trained and friendly staff. Whether you are an expat, local or holidaymaker, Cubby House is open to everyone!
