Joining the trendy surfer set to ease their tension and aches and pains is the new Espace Spa located on the road between Deus Restaurant and Echo Beach. This ultra-modern building is two stories and very spacious. The delightful décor consists of light rattan furniture with brightly coloured African wax fabric cushions creating an atmosphere of being light and airy. Espace opened in December and is still in its “soft opening” phase with a planned grand opening in a couple of months.
Espace has been in operation in Seminyak since 2001 and is well known for great proper massage thanks to their European master trainer. This is a spa where you know you’ll get a great massage that actually benefits your body and its needs.
I had a little tour of the new spa when I first arrived viewing the 16 treatment rooms, some single and others double. This spa can handle a group of ten or more people at one time. The manicure/ pedicure room and cream bath facilities are beautifully outfitted. The locker room is equipped with 14 private lockers with a soft white bathrobe inside. Showers and toilets are for your convenience on the ground and first floors.
After enjoying a cup of cold ginger tea I was greeted by my therapist in the reception room and accompanied to the locker room to change. When I emerged a few minutes later she was waiting for me outside the door and led me up the expansive staircase. Then I was guided to one of the single rooms and told that I would receive the full body Traditional Oriental massage first. This is Espace’s signature massage which is stimulating and rejuvenating using long strokes, deep stimulation on muscles and joints along with great stretching and pressure points.
I found the massage bed very comfortable being wide and long with a face hole in the bed with a soft cushion horseshoe around it for face comfort. Looking through the tunnel of white sheeting I could see a small garden of flowers below. So many massage beds are quite narrow with an uncomfortable face cradle at the end of the table. This one was a pleasure to lie on.
The massage commenced with some gentle rocking on the back to relax me. Then strong stretches to my legs which really needed it. Methodically she worked on each leg easing the aching muscles then placed a small cushion under each ankle for comfort of the leg. The splendid back massage erased all tension. Then she surprised me by asking me to lie on my left side, which is a common position in Shiatsu and Thai massage. Instead of applying oil she covered my leg with the sheet and pressed pressure points on the outside and inside my leg. Some of the points almost had me crying out in pain but I had to grin and bear it knowing it was doing my body good.
The whole massage seemed to go on forever culminating in a band of fabric under my neck and pulling up on the occipital which felt incredibly good. A gentle face and scalp massage had me in a state of bliss at the end.
Following the massage I had the new Facial Organic Bamboo Charcoal that includes a scrub and conditioning mask enhanced with essential oils. This facial is good for cleansing and detoxing the face. The entire ritual consists of cleansing, scrubbing and a soothing face massage followed by the mask. During the process time she massaged my hands and arms and then a gentle scalp massage. She also took a warm wet cloth and removed the excess oil from my arms and legs before finishing leaving me feeling fresh and clean.
Other massages on offer are Calm and Relax Me – full body for a more gentle touch; Tension Relief – Deep Tissue with a choice of full back, neck, shoulder and upper back or lower back. Pregnancy care to nurture the mother to be. Foot Reflexology Discovery and Four Hands Massage, which is an amazing massage choreographed with two therapists working in perfect harmony. An awesome experience and maybe the best four handed massage I’ve tried. Warm stone massage ensures a deeper relaxation and purification.
Espace offers body masks wraps and scrubs that leave your skin silky smooth and hydrated. Scrubs include: Mandi Lulur, Marine Crystal Salts Glow, Coffee, Coconut, Green Tea, Mineral Flores Island Sea Mud and the new Organic Bamboo Charcoal. Wraps include: Traditional Balinese Boreh, Sea Weed Mask, Mud Mask and Enriched Cooling Sea Weed.
Other facials include Biokos – Aloe Vera, Spa Essentia Singapore or add some deep cleansing to allow a deeper cleansing of impurities.
