Gandhi Memorial Intercontinental School – Bali

GMIS-Bali is an established IB World school in the heart of Bali, where young people thrive, learn and succeed. As an IB world school, GMIS aims to provide exceptional opportunities for each student in a supporting and challenging environment.

GMIS-Jakarta is our mother school which was incepted in 1950. The well experienced teachers, well-versed programme coordinators and highly intellectual Principal Mr. A.P. Singh keep advising us from time to time. GMIS Bali is affiliated to International Baccalaureate Geneva-Switzerland and Cambridge International Examination UK.

The IB programme provides students with a world-class, inquiry-based learning experience that is linked to real life examples, enabling young people to be prepared for a future that is constantly changing. We are committed to the spirit of international education. We have a belief that each child is special and we encourage differentiated learning and teaching in our classes. Also students who need special attention are extended with this help after the school hours are over and also during June-July and December holidays (subject to the availability of the teacher).GMIS-Bali offers the three programmes of the IB:

  1. PYP for Grades Nursery to 5 (age range 3 to 10)

As an authorized PYP (Primary Years Programme) school, our aim is to develop a caring school community fostering respect for individual and cultural diversity. Among the key components of IB-PYP at GMIS, we are teaching international-mindedness: who we are in our school, in our community and in the world; focusing on the social, emotional and academic well-being of students; continuing professional development for teachers to expand their knowledge and expertise in teaching IB-PYP to high international benchmarks; and regular visits by the International Baccalaureate Organization to affirm the quality of the program.

  1. MYP for Grades 6 to 10 (age range 11 to 15)

The MYP (Middle Years Programme) is built upon three fundamental concepts which include culture, connections, and communication. Learning experience for students in the MYP will focus on concepts that are timeless, abstract, universal, global, holistic, and transferrable. This investment will authentically prepare our students to become internationally-minded. Thus being innovators and critical problem-solvers that are able to compete effectively in the 21st Century.   In striving to meet the needs of a demanding and internationally relevant education we work diligently to create a progressive learning environment. For all subjects taught in MYP grade 9 and 10 we use the Cambridge International Curriculum, IGCSE also which is the world’s largest provider of international education programs and qualifications for 13-16 year olds.

  1. Diploma programme for Grades 11 & 12 (age range 16 to 18)

We believe that IB fosters a kind of independence, an interdisciplinary style of thinking and questioning that creates scholars and global citizens. For this reason, the IB Diploma is widely recognized by universities around the world as a symbol of academic excellence and one of the strongest educational experiences available in secondary education today. GMIS prides itself on high academic standards (IBDP 2016 Highest Score is 43 out of 45). Truly excellent education is about developing a passion for life-long learning and capability for independent thinking. Our confident and articulate students are encouraged to discover interests that extend beyond the classroom. Our school community has 33 different nationalities, enabling students to develop moral values, and display kindness, courage, respect and integrity towards each other and throughout our diverse and multicultural environment.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) are an integral part of the holistic education that will enrich the learning experiences of our students. In GMIS, our CCA programme is designed to cater to the interests and abilities of our students, guided by our school’s core values- Care, Teamwork, Resilience, Excellence, Confidence, Integrity, Respect and Service. We believe that through sustained and active participation in CCAs, our students are able to develop social- emotional competencies that will prepare them for a rapidly changing world. Hence, the CCA department places great emphasis in fostering camaraderie, developing individual potential in sports, clubs, performing arts and uniformed group activities, instilling a life-long passion for the activity, inculcating leadership qualities, sportsmanship, as well as, developing robust character with a sound body and a disciplined mind.

THEATRE IN GMIS-BALI

At GMIS, we offer Drama as part of the Middle Years Programme as a subject. Through both the IB Theatre course and our co-curricular theatre company strive to help students develop a lifelong passion for the arts as well as strengthen their ability to take risks, solve problems, collaborate, persevere, listen and empathize with others. Our students not only study works of the established playwrights, but also, more powerfully, they create their own theatrical pieces to examine important issues. They learn to modulate their own voices, both individually and as part of an ensemble, to enhance their experiences of life. Last year we boast of staging two plays which are “Les Misérables” and “Ali Baba and 40 thieves”.

We are incredibly excited to celebrate the twelve glorious years in Bali. This promises to be a year filled with golden opportunities for all of our students. We strive to find ways that we may better ourselves in every field. We embark on this journey with a pledge to you, our students and parents, that this will be a year of engaging, meaningful and rigorous work in our classrooms, combined with special events and a plethora of extracurricular clubs and activities, performing arts groups, and numerous sports activities.
