GIN Bali Walkathon (3 February)

This is a charity event that is supporting the concept of Aquaponics which is a low cost, low maintenance, naturally organic vegetable farming and organic fish farming system. It produces high quality, nutrient rich, organic food with a high crop turnover. The system can be built in small spaces and places where gardening may otherwise be impossible. It gives the orphanages self-sufficiency, independence, and potential extra income from the highly valued produce sold at a local market. Many orphans in Indonesia are malnourished, with few nutrients in their food coming from the rice they eat at every meal. By participating in the 3.9 km GINBali Walkathon you will help raise awareness and money to build more Aquaponics systems for orphanages in Bali. A typical start up cost for one system is approximately IDR 10,000,000. The goal is to raise that amount to build 1 new Aquaphonics farm. You can go to the Facebook page below and click on going. If you cannot go and would like to make a donation you can do so via details on the Facebook page. We wish the organizers the best of luck and hope that more of these systems can be implemented to help those in need.

Chinese New Year Celebration (9 – 14 February)

A very happy Chinese New Year to all readers who are celebrating this auspicious occasion. The coming year is the year of the Dog. The Dog is the 11th sign of the Chinese zodiac. Amongst qualities, the dog is honest, faithful, jealous and the most conservative. The dog is not a great traveler and prefers to take care of his home. If you believe in this then it may be a good year to plan to have a child or another major event. During the above mentioned dates, the Laguna resort’s signature Banyubiru restaurant will be offering a wide selection of Chinese delights including roasted Peking duck, Szechuan chicken, wok-fried salted egg prawns, crackling pork belly with hoi sin sauce, dim sum and desserts to make your mouth water. A live musical performance of Chinese classics will add to the ambience and take you on a journey into the culture of the Chinese. The Arnawa Restaurant will offer afternoon tea with Chinese sweet and savory treats coupled with delicious teas from 3 pm to 5 pm from 9 to 17 February.

By simply choosing to use businesses that are committed to supporting charities you can have a positive impact on the work of charities in Bali. That is exactly this website is designed to do. In the trial phase My Red Envelope was proud to support some of the well known foundations in Bali including ROLE Foundation, Bali WISE, Bali Children’s Foundation, Bali’s Street Kids and Social Impakt. I am intrigued to find out more as the concept is working well and the organizers are about to move forward and want to celebrate with the community the launch of their website. Valentine’s Day (14 February)

There are plenty of places to choose from to celebrate across the island but I have picked out one that features live entertainment and for jazz fans look no further. Jeko Fauzy Trio will serenade your evening. ‘La Festa Degli Innamorati’ is how Valentine’s Day is known in Italy, originating in the Roman Empire to celebrate the queen of Roman Gods and Godesses. The menu has an aphrodisiac inspired choice of dishes to add to the mood. There will be an open jam session for musicians so do bring your instruments and join the band. Do call and make a reservation and that goes for anywhere as Valentine’s Day is probably one of the most popular evenings and places get booked up quickly. Happy Valentine’s Day to all readers out there!
