Super Bowl Sunday? Or is That Monday?
Even if, like yours truly, you know nothing about American Football and are a complete clueless when it comes to NFL (that stands for National Football League by the way – the stars and stripes version) you must have heard about Super Bowl Sunday! Nope, nothing remotely associated with a bowling ball or white shoes and astroturf, Super Bowl Sunday is one of the most anticipated days on the North American sporting calendar. It’s the annual championship game between what was once the American Football League and the National Football League before their official ‘merger’ in 1970.
Whether you are one of the millions who tune in because you truly love your gridiron and all that ridiculous padding that goes with it, have a hankering to see who’s presenting the half time entertainment (how could we forget THAT Janet Jackson incident!!) or someone who doesn’t give a toss about the touchdowns but desperate to see those million dollar ads, the Super Bowl is undeniably one of the most viewed sporting events across the world today and a spectacle well worth the watch.
Thanks to the multitude of television screens around Finns Recreation Club and in The Sports Bar, you won’t be needing to venture far to see this year’s game – the 52nd clash since January 15th, 1967 and officially referred to as Super Bowl LII. Due to time differences, (we are WAY ahead of you USA!) we can’t really call it Super Bowl Sunday here in Bali because our telecast of the big game commences from 7am on Monday February 5th. Irrespective of the international dateline, Super Bowl is on at Finns!
Not a morning person? Grumpy face be gone when you discover that Happy Hour starts from 7am and continues all day! And what’s a football game without footy franks? Tuck into an American breakfast or some finger lickin’ chicken wings for some sustenance throughout the game with Bistro C’s regular menu still available.
The game kicks off with international artist Pink belting out the Star Spangled Banner and this year’s heavily anticipated half time show is from none other than Justin Timberlake, a soon to be third time veteran of Super Bowl Sunday performances, having appeared previously in 2001 and 2004. Though we’re not likely to see any more wardrobe malfunctions for this year’s performance!
Will it be the Jacksonville Jaguars or odds on favourites and last year’s winners, New England Patriots; the Philadelphia Eagles or home team Minnesota Vikings to take home the trophy?
