Hot Air Ballooning at The Chedi Club Ubud – Now to November

The Chedi Club in Ubud is offering the only balloon rides in Bali. The rides, under the expert guidance of a certified pilot, take off 3 times daily above the rice paddies of the resort. It’s a great family fun event with unparalleled views of nature, mountains and nearby Ubud town. Each flight climbs 50 metres above the resort’s rice fields, and floats at the end of a tether while passengers enjoy the views of Mt. Agung in the near distance, expansive rice fields below, the forests of Ubud and the 5-hectare estate of The Chedi Club. Due to weight restrictions the rides are limited to maximum 2 adults and 2 children under 12. Best of all, the rides include breakfast, afternoon tea or dinner.

The Future of Food with Chef Simon – 19 July

For an out-of-the ordinary conversation around food, one of humanities great obsessions, join Zest Executive Chef Simon who is an adherent of the new earth cooking school. Simon enjoys hitting on the more controversial topics whilst not forgetting about the lighter side of life (which should never involve diet coke). He will shed light on questions such as: Is there a perfect diet for humans, and how does it agree with the rest of the world? Do vegans really taste better when eaten by a crocodile? How did the industrialization of agriculture cause a cornflake revolution, is it linked to patriarchal society and do I really have artificial fertilizer running around my veins? All this served up with a good dose of deadpan humour and guaranteed to tickle your curiosity. The event is free of charge.

Sunny Side Up Festival – 21 July and 12 August

Potato Head Beach Club in Petitenget is known as a party place and organises frequent music events. The annual Sunny Side Up Festival is one of the most popular events as it combines top local and international acts, food, drinks and culture. This year’s lineup includes Australian singer-songwriter Nick Murphy (FKA Chet Faker) as the headliner on 21 July and Grammy award nominee Halsey on 12 August. Also appearing are DJs Seabass and Moonboots, Indonesian artist Niki and HMGN electropop group from Bandung. Tickets are IDR 700.000 per event.

 

Movie night at Betelnut: The Smartest Guys in the Room – 24 July

A must-see documentary about the fall of mighty Enron who dives from being the 7th largest US company to bankruptcy in less than a year. This film recounts events in a chronological fashion and explains the shady ‘market to market’ accounting device that the men who called themselves ‘the smartest guys in the room’ used to commit corporate fraud on a colossal scale. Starring John Beard, Tim Belden and Barbara Boxer.

7th Bali International Choir Festival – 24 to 28 July

For music lovers and budding choralists, this annual choir symposium and competition event, organised by The Bandung Choral Society, is a great opportunity to hear the voices of over a hundred choirs from 16 countries in Asia, Europe and the Americas. The main venue is at Prime Plaza Hotel in Sanur. The opening ceremony and opening concert is on July 24 at 5pm in the Hongkong Garden Ballroom. The competitions and special concerts will be held from 25-28 july 2018, at Prime Plaza hotel, Gereja Kristus Yesus Kuta.
