Borneo: The Unspoken Truth with Randi Miranda – 2 August

The Dayak tribe in Kalimantan is well known as one of the native communities in Borneo, which is also the location of one of the oldest rainforests in the world. The forest is the habitat of the orang-utan, pygmy elephant, clouded leopard, rhinoceros and many species of birds. It is also the ancestral land of the Dayak people, who have been the caretakers of these mighty forests for centuries. Unfortunately these mighty forests are being encroached by various interests and this has affected the lives and livelihoods of the Dayak. Dayak member Randi Julian Miranda is the founder and CEO of Handep, an organisation that strives to help improve the local economy, especially for rural and forest-dependent communities, and preserve the rainforests in Kalimantan. He will share an update of the current situation in Kalimantan and the plight of the 300 indigenous Dayak tribes that live there.
