Bale Banjar Culture Club (12 November)

The Ayodya Resort offers a monthly programme of free lectures about Balinese life, culture and history. This is part of the resort’s commitment to be an inclusive part of the Bali community and all that it has to offer. Organised for the second Sunday of each month guests are welcome to attend the lecture.  Featured on this date is Ron Lilley, a Bali based herpetologist also known as ‘The snake man of Bali’ with his extensive knowledge of snakes.  Ron Lilley also organises the Bali Snake Patrol which is a group that rescues snakes that have found their way into hotels, villas and the community. This is definitely not a job for the faint hearted but nevertheless a job that needs doing. Ron Lilley will speak about ‘Snakes in Bali Culture’ and provide information about the Balinese and their attitudes towards snakes. You will also learn about the 46 species of land snakes and 15 species of sea snakes which have been photographed by Ron Lilley. This is a rare opportunity to attend an information session as well as enjoy a cash bar and socialise with other participants. The session will last about 45 minutes with opportunities to ask questions and find out more about one of Bali’s long term residents and his passion for snakes. You can also join Ron Lilley at the Ayodya’s Waterfall restaurant which has a good dinner offer for participants.  Do call to reserve your spot.

Bali Philately Exhibition (15 – 19 November)

Just in case readers are unsure of what ‘Philately’ is I have included the definition.  This would also be a good trivia question too.  Philately is the study of stamps and postal history and other related items. It also refers to the collection, appreciation and research activities on stamps and other philatelic products. This ‘Panfila Baliphex 2017’, is a philately exhibition featuring the theme of fine art philately of Bali.  Stamps of interest include Bali pictured on stamps 1930 to 2017 and world stamps from 1840 to 1900. There will also be entertainment featuring philately and Indonesian and Indian culture. There are workshops and children’s competitions. Commemorative covers and postcards are available. In addition to those already interested in stamps, the event has wider appeal and may also be combined with looking round the 3D Museum.  This event sounds like an interesting school trip and worth attending to find out more about the postal history of Bali.
