Book Launch (27 October)

This is part of the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival and the book is all about the early days of Bali.  The book features Walter Henry Medhurst, a Jakarta-based missionary who arrived in Bali to spread the word of Christianity on 10 December, 1829. The book is called ‘Mission to China:  How an Englishman brought the West to the Orient’ by John Holliday who is the great great grandson of Walter Medhurst.  John Holliday, originally from the UK, now lives in Australia and has spent five years researching the life of his ancestor through England, India, Malaysia, Indonesia and China.  By attending this launch you will get to meet John Holliday and learn more about his fascinating experiences researching this biography.  The journal of Walter Medhurst is one of the earliest published accounts of the history and culture of Bali.  This is one book launch not to be missed and will add to the history books about Bali in a bygone era.
