Rotary Club Bali Ubud Sunset Inducts Its Newest Member

On Monday, 13 September 2021, Rotary Club Bali Ubud Sunset [RCBUS] inducted its newest member, Ni Made Rohani. She is sponsored by both Kartika Dewi and Marion Hook, current members of RCBUS. A former Rotaract, Rohani was eager to join RCBUS. When asked why, Rohani answered, “I like the activities that help people and give me the opportunity to learn new ideas and meet new people.” She stated that community service and fundraising were two of her major interests and feels that securing connections to overseas Rotary Clubs is RCBUS’ biggest challenge. Rohani is working on some fresh ideas to make those connections happen.

Rohani is from Banjar Belang, Desa Singapadu Kaler, Sukawati where she attended school. She relayed that her best teacher was her father who taught her to always help people, to be intellectually curious, and to take advantage of learning from every situation. With his encouragement, Rohani became very proficient in English. She took private lessons and interacted with English speakers at Ganesha Bookstore in Ubud where she works.

Rohani has experience helping others. She volunteers for the Balinese Children’s Education Foundation, a US based foundation started 16 years ago by Nancy and Dennis Colbert. The foundation now helps children with school expenses and, more recently, is distributing food, with Rohani’s help, to needy villagers.

Rohani enjoys Balinese cooking, a skill that she learned from her mother. She is an active member of RCBUS’ Sewing for Living project where she is learning new skills. As a participant of that project and a RCBUS member, Rohani will manage the online store that will allow participants of Sewing for Living to market their handcrafted items online. She will also help RCBUS to raise funds.

RCBUS’ largest fundraiser of 2021 is Bogies for Bali, a charity golf tournament that will be held on Saturday, 30 October 2021 at the world renown Handara Golf and Resort Bali located in the cool mountains of Bedugul. It is the perfect fundraiser to hold during a pandemic because it can occur outside, participants can remain masked when they are inside, and everyone can remain properly socially distanced at all times.

RCBUS is expecting over 35 golfers to join the competition and excitement. The tee off is at 8 AM on Saturday,30 October, but some of the festivities will begin the on evening before at 5 PM, Friday, 29 October. Those golfers and their friends who wish to avoid driving to Bogies for Bali early on Saturday morning can book a room at the golf resort for the night of 29 October. Handara Golf and Resort is graciously offering Bogies for Bali participants discounted rates on their finely appointed rooms with proof of registration in the golf tournament.

RCBUS will host a BBQ that evening which is included in the price of the room and registration in the golf tournament. The BBQ will include a chipping contest and the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for the raffle to be held at the 19th Hole awards event the following day.

Breakfast will be served to all participants and their guests directly preceding the tee off on Saturday, 30 October. After completing the challenging course at Handara Golf & Resort Bali, participants will gather for a light lunch, presentation of awards, a live auction and choosing of the raffle prize winners.

Trophies and prizes for best scores, hole-in-one and worst score will be presented. BMW has donated a gs310 motorcycle to be given to the skillful person who makes a hole-in-one. A live auction and a raffle will also be part of the awards ceremonies. Sponsors and donors will be right on hand with their products for participants and their families and friends to purchase.

Donors and sponsors have been particularly generous. ABWonderdive Bali Resort, Alila Villas, Jiwa House, Lily Lane Villas and Sthala have each donated overnight stays.

Bank Lestari is generously donating golf umbrellas. Green ClubGolf has donated gift certificates to their pro shop to make your shopping there more fun. Toya Salt has graciously donated two pampering kits to help you relax after playing 18 holes.

Bali Advertiser has provided free advertising space for the event. HOVI, a program of Kasih Ibu Hospital, and Super Keto, a company which produces keto jellies, are both sponsors of holes on the course. Sangkala Art and Sewing for Living have donated prizes for the raffle.

Bali Better Breathing, Breeze Terrace, Margi Hair & Makeup, Pukako Panini & Coffee, Soyokaze, and Warung Legong have all donated gift certificates to the fabulous raffle which will take place at the 19th Hole Awards Ceremony.
