Rotary Club Bali Ubud Sunset Reactivates Its Speakers Program


On 27 September 2021, Dr. Tania, a neurologist from HoviAssisted in Saba, addressed the Rotary Club Bali Ubud Sunset [RCBUS]. The doctor, who received her degree from a university in the Netherlands, spoke of the opportunities and benefits that HoviAssisted offers to the elderly who face memory challenges or who need assistance while performing the activities of daily living [ADL]. These services are also offered to post-stroke patients and those recovering from hip fractures and head injuries.

Dr. Tania explained that the program at HoviAssisted is modeled after a very successful program used in Finland. She explained that each client is provide with the necessary support to care for their own health. Each client receives a personalized plan and the support to enact it. She added that HoviAssisted is integrated with Kasih Ibu Hospital Saba and is under the supervision of doctors and professional medical personnel. Dr. T.ania returned to Indonesia 10 years ago after her studies in the Netherlands were completed. She first lived in Jakarta when she returned, but now lives in Saba with her husband and their child. Her mother is currently living in Jakarta where she is suffering from dementia. She will join Dr. Tania by the end of 2021, and be enrolled in HoviAssisted services.

November’s speaker, Linus, will join us from Borneo where he is the founder and director of the Conservation Action Network [CAN] in Borneo. He will discuss the conservation work that CAN is doing. That includes the following goals listed on the CAN website:

  1. Protecting forest and wildlife with conservation practices based on traditional wisdom.
  2. Building partnerships with the community, government and the private sector to make sustainable conservation activities based on improving the economy of communities around the forests.
  3. Building community awareness to protect forests with education and awareness activities.
  4. Developing and running tourism activities based on environmental awareness.
  5. Building a base of volunteers in whole of Indonesia to support conservation activities.
  6. Campaigning to protect forests from deforestation.

RCBUS’ speaker in December, exact date to be announced, is Lidia Lavigne. Lidia is “a passioned and inspiring Womanpreneur with almost 20 years in the hospitality business and 9 years in entrepreneurship.” She is the founder of Bali Lids Villa Management. Lidia, who is also a business coach, personal mentor, writer and speaker, will discuss writing as therapy. She will discuss the importance of journaling. RCBUS’ largest fundraiser of 2021 is Bogies for Bali, a charity golf tournament that will be held on Saturday, 30 October 2021 at the world renown Handara Golf and Resort Bali located in the cool mountains of Bedugul.

RCBUS is expecting over 35 golfers to join the competition and excitement. The tee off is at 8 AM on Saturday,30 October, but some of the festivities will begin the on evening before at 5 PM, Friday, 29 October. Those golfers and their friends who wish to avoid driving to Bogies for Bali early on Saturday morning can book a room at the golf resort for the night of 29 October. Handara Golf and Resort is graciously offering Bogies for Bali participants discounted rates on their finely appointed rooms with proof of registration in the golf tournament.

RCBUS will host a BBQ that evening which is included in the price of the room and registration in the golf tournament. The BBQ will include a chipping contest and the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for the raffle to be held at the 19th Hole awards event the following day.

Breakfast will be served to all participants and their guests directly preceding the tee off on Saturday, 30 October. After completing the challenging course at Handara Golf & Resort Bali, participants will gather for a light lunch, presentation of awards, a live auction and choosing of the raffle prize winners.

Trophies and prizes for best scores, hole-in-one and worst score will be presented. BMW has donated a gs310 motorcycle to be given to the skillful person who makes a hole-in-one on hole #11. ABWonderdive Bali Resort has donated a 2 nights and three days stay to be given to the person who scores a hole-in-one on hole #2. Como Uma has donated a 2 nights and three days stay to be given to the skillful person who scores a hole-in-one on hole #4. Club Car has donated a golf bag to be given to the skillful person for scores a hole-in-one on hole #14. A live auction and a raffle will also be part of the awards ceremonies. Sponsors and donors will be right on hand with their products for participants and their families and friends to purchase.

Bali Advertiser has provided free advertising space for the event. HOVI, a program of Kasih Ibu Hospital, and Super Keto, a company which produces keto jellies, are both sponsors of holes on the course. Sangkala Art and Sewing for Living have donated prizes for the raffle.

Bali Better Breathing, Breeze Terrace, Margi Hair & Makeup, Pukako Panini & Coffee, Soyokaze, and Warung Legong have all donated gift certificates to the fabulous raffle which will take place at the 19th Hole Awards Ceremony.

Sangkala Art and Sewing for Living have both purchased tables in the tournament’s market place where you will be able to purchase their products.

Here are some things you should know if you are contemplating joining Bogies for Bali at Handara Golf & Resort Bali. Handara Golf & Resort Bali has instituted several precautions during the Covid pandemic.

  1. All guests entering the facility must have proof of vaccination or a recent negative PCR test.
  2. A nurse in a separate room will be available to administer an antigen test for Covid.
  3. Carts will be limited to one golfer per cart.
  4. All caddies will be masked.
  5. It is recommended that all golfers be masked except when hitting the ball.
  6. It is recommended that all guests be masked in public indoor spaces except when eating or drinking.
  7. The facility was closed from August 11 to August 21.
