BALI VERNADOC 2019 Opening Night Exhibition – 26 April

The term VERNADOC (Vernacular Documentation) refers to a methodology for vernacular architecture study that emphasizes the collecting of data and information on site by basic techniques to produce high quality measured drawings.   An international team of students and staff from Australian, Thai and Indonesian Universities are working together for one week at Pedawa Village in Singaraja to learn diverse skills in hand-drawing and measuring local houses at risk of demolition, gaining in-depth understanding of how cultural practices, festivals and ways of life influence people’s spatial living environments, all of which have important impacts for design professionals.

This project will culminate in an exhibition of VERNADOC 2019 and will also feature portraiture drawing by Tepi Barat Community, photography by Yvonne Pekerti and “Bali Aga House” book by Mitsuha Abe

Europe on Screen in Bali – 26 and 27 April

This year Europe on Screen is presenting two movies at the Alliance Française in Denpasar. The first one is Papillon, a 2018 Czech drama and biography of the infamous safecracker Henri Charrière who was framed for murder and imprisoned on Devil’s Island where he formed an unlikely alliance with millionaire counterfeiter Louis Dega and planned for escape. Director by Michael Noer. Cast : Charlie Hunnam, Rami Malek, Christopher Fairbank. This movie is rated 17+ and has Indonesian subtitles.

The second is Marrowbone, a Spanish film by Director Sergio G. Sánchez and the actors are George MacKay, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton. Synopsis: After the mother’s death, the eldest Marrowbone child, Jack, is responsible to protect his three siblings. They live in constant fear that their father will find them and not to mention the haunting of a sinister presence in their new home.

Ubud Food festival (UFF) – 26 to 28 April

The Ubud Food Festival presents a huge variety of Balinese and international cuisines.
