Ubud Food Festivala taste of whats to come

Ubud Food Festival:
a taste of what’s to come…

With the success of The Kitchen program at the 2014 Ubud Writers & Readers Festival, Director & Founder Janet DeNeefe has decided to go full steam ahead and launch a food festival, commencing June 5 – 7, 2015 in Ubud, Bali.

Says Janet: “I have been living and breathing Indonesian food for more than 30 years and now it’s time to share this glorious cuisine with the world.

There will be culinary surprises around every corner, with a line-up of local and international chefs from across the archipelago, as well as film-makers, food writers, growers and more in what is set to become Indonesia’s most exciting gastronomic celebration.”

The Ubud Food Festival will be an exciting three-day culinary extravaganza of cooking demonstrations, panel sessions, workshops on food writing, food photography and blogging, wine-tastings, food tours, films, farmer’s markets and a night market. From coffee to chocolate, tempe to turmeric, local produce will be a glowing star amidst lively discussions and cooking demonstrations.

Presenters hailing from all over the archipelago will display their talent and passion for all forms of gastronomy, while Ubud’s acclaimed restaurants will join the show by featuring their signature dishes.

Topics under discussion will include major environmental ‘food’ issues from food sovereignty to sustainable food security and governance. There will also be an emphasis on appreciating the local food culture and its history; the heritage of Indonesia food, from spices and colonial history, to cultural influences and national identity.

Beyond that the Festival aims to support local businesses, producers, suppliers and foodies, and is open to discussion with the community on how best to get involved.

As a sibling Festival to Ubud Writers & Readers Festival, and also founded by the Yayasan Mudra Swari Saraswati, Ubud Food Festival’s mission is to create a sustainable, world-class culinary event that showcases Indonesia’s diverse cuisine, innovative chefs and extraordinary local produce.

Most importantly, this is a festival of food and stories worth savouring. We look forward to sharing it with you.
