Spiced Nuts

With the holidays approaching these easy to make nuts make delicious gifts poured into decorative bottles and tied with festive ribbons. They are also good to have on hand for instant appetizers. The first time I made them they weren’t quite spicy enough for my taste so I’ve included ramped up amounts for those who like it hot. Warning though – it’s hard to stop eating them and as soon as they cool they become crunchy spicy wonders in your mouth and before you know it, your hand is reaching for more. My chicken, Milly, thinks they’re divine too.

Spiced Nuts
Makes about 3 1/4 cups


– 1/3 cup palm sugar finely grated (you can use brown sugar)
– 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
– 1/8 – 1/4 teaspoon finely ground cayenne
– 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
– 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/8 – 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
– 1/8 – 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
– 1/8 – 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
– 1/4? – 3/8 teaspoon ground cardamon
– 1 egg white, lightly beaten
– 1 tablespoon water
– 400 g whole cashews or about 3¼ cups


Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or use a non-stick baking sheet. (I just soaked my non-stick sheet after baking and the sticky residue came right off.)

Combine the palm sugar, salt, cayenne, black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, allspice and cardamom in a small bowl and set aside.

In another small bowl beat the egg white with the water. Stir in the cashews, mixing until well moistened.

Sprinkle the spice mixture over the moistened nuts and toss. Spread nuts onto the prepared pan and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, stirring once or twice. Be careful not to burn the nuts.

Turn off the oven and let them cool inside.? With the humidity here you don’t want them to become sticky so as soon as they are cool, store in an airtight glass bottle. They will keep well this way.

Kacang Mente Dengan Bumbu

Kira kira 3 1/4 cangkir

Bahan bahan:

– 1/3 cangkir gula merah di parut halus
– 1/2 tsp. garam laut
– 1/8 – 1/4 tsp. bubuk cabe kering, yang halus
– 1/8 tsp. bubuk merica hitam
– 1/2 tsp. bubuk kayu manis
– 1/8 – 1/4 tsp. bubuk cengkeh
– 1/8 – 1/4 tsp. bubuk allspice
– 1/8 – 1/4 tsp. bubuk pala
– 1/4? – 3/8 tsp. bubuk cardamon
– 1 putih telor, di kocok
– 1 Tbl. air
– 400 gr. kacang mente kira kira 3¼ cangkir – bisa pakai campuran kacang yang anda suka.

Cara Membuat:

Panaskan oven ke 350 derajat F (175 derajat C) .?
Siapkan loyang yang biasa dipakai untuk oven, dan tambahkan aluminium foil didalamnya.

Di dalam mangkok kecil campur gula merah, garam, bubuk cabe kering, bubuk merica hitam, bubuk kayu manis, bubuk cengkeh, bubuk allspice, bubuk pala dan bubuk cardamon. Aduk sampai semua bahan tercampur rata, taruh di samping.

Di dalam mangkok yang lain taruh putih telur dengan air. Gunakan garpu dan kocok sampai tercampur bagus. Tambah kacang mente dan aduk sampai semua kacang kena telur.Tambahkan sedikit demi sedikit campuran bumbu (gula merah) dan aduk bagus sampai semua mente merata kena bumbu.

Taruh ini dalam loyang, taruh satu rata/sejajar. Masukkan kedalam oven yang sudah panas. Sekali sekali diaduk agar kacang matang merata, ovenselama 30 menit. Hati hati supaya tidak sampai gosong.

Matikan oven dan tunggu sampai kacang dingin. Masukkan kedalam toples dan tutup bagus.?
